Bakersfield Blitz News Release

Bakersfield, Calif. - The Bakersfield Blitz dipped back into their 2005 Training Camp to bulk up at quarterback today, when Rich Lucero was assigned by the af2 office. He will join the team tonight and make the trip to Bossier-Shreveport for Saturday's game. To make room on the roster, QB A.J. Chambers has been reassigned.

Lucero, 6'2" 210lbs, played in 2004 with both the Manchester Wolves and Laredo Law in the af2. In a backup role he was 14-for-22 with three touchdowns and did not throw an interception. A broken ankle prematurely ended his rookie season in July with the Law. The Northern Arizona University grad finished his college days in 2002, when he appeared in five games and completed nearly 60% of his passes.

Lucero transferred to Northern Arizona after playing in 2000 with the University of Massachusetts, where he threw for over 2,000 yards and 17 touchdowns in nine games. He set a school record with a five touchdown performance and spread himself out over the UMASS record books.

The Bakersfield Blitz head out on the road this weekend to battle against Bossier-Shreveport, but will return on Friday the 13th of May against the first- place Tulsa Talons for Guaranteed Win Night. If the Blitz don't win that game, everyone in attendance will get a free ticket to their next home game the following weekend. The giveaway will continue until the Blitz do pick up a victory, so fans that come to the Tulsa game are guaranteed to see a win. Also that night, the first 2,000 fans will get a free Blitz Dashboard Memo Pad, courtesy of KGEO "Hot Talk" AM 1230.
