Memphis Xplorers News Release
Southaven, MS-The Memphis Xplorers of the af2 will play their first home game of the 2005 season Friday at 7:30 at the DeSoto Civic Center. Memphis will face the Arkansas Twisters, a former division rival, for the ninth time in franchise history. The Xplorers won both meetings last year between these two teams.
Memphis enters the game with their best start in franchise history, having won their first two games convincingly. In the season opener against the Bossier Battle Wings, the Xplorers won 63-24, keeping Bossier scoreless in the second half. Last Friday in Amarillo, Memphis handed the Dusters their first home loss ever 66-41, breaking a streak of 11 straight. Both wins were over division opponents, now that the Xplorers are members of the Mid West Division of the National Conference.
The DeSoto Civic Center is the home of the Xplorers, and prior to the start of the game, there will be numerous exciting activities for the fans. Happy Times Farm will "bring the farm" to Xplorers parking lot, where kids can enjoy the "Traveling Petting Zoo." There will also be a fun bounce inflatable for fans to enjoy as well. This year will mark the first time in the history of the DCC that fans will be able to tailgate in the parking lot prior to the start of the game. Q 107.5 FM will have a live radio remote beginning at 5:00 right outside the main entrance.
Covington Pike Scion and Toyota are sponsoring the opening night, and three lucky fans will have a chance to win a brand new Scion TC 5-Speed in the target toss contest during the game. Fans need to register at guest services inside the main concourse for your chance to win this brand new car!
For two consecutive weeks the Xplorers have had representatives in the af2 players of the week awards. In week one lineman Khreem Smith won ADT defensive player of the week honors for his three sacks and forced fumble. This past week OS Kevin Prentiss won the Offensive MVP for his af2 record tying eight touchdowns against Amarillo. The Xplorers will go for three straight this weekend against the Twisters.
The Xplorers are 2-0 on the young season and will be looking for their first home win of the season this Friday at the DeSoto Civic Center. Single game tickets start as low as $7.
