Florida hangs on to poll lead in week three

April 13, 2005 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release

CHICAGO -Securing 207 out of a possible 228 points, the Florida Firecats remained atop the weekly Coaches poll for the third consecutive week, the arenafootball2 (af2) league office announced today.

For the second straight week the Firecats total included 10 first-place votes. The Memphis Xplorers maintained their hold on the No. 2 spot by receiving four first-place votes, up one from last week, and earning a total of 196 points. In third was the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton with 185 points and five first-place votes. The only other team getting a first-place vote was the Central Valley Coyotes (1).

Week 3 features two matchups between arenafootball2's Top 12 teams. On Thursday at 7:30 p.m., No. 11 Birmingham travels to Macon to take on the No.8 Knights. The No.12 Rio Grande Valley Dorados hit the road to take on the No.1 ranked Firecats on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. All times are Eastern.

Each week during the season af2 coaches will vote for the Top 12 teams in the league by ranking them one through 12 on a ballot. Teams ranked first receive 12 points with the point value decreasing by one for each place below first, meaning a team ranked 12th would receive one point. Total points will determine the Top 12 list. In the event of a tie in total points, the team with the greater number of first-place votes will be ranked higher. The af2 Coaches Poll will be announced every Tuesday during the regular season. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team and the poll results have no bearing on postseason qualification.

The complete Top 12 is listed below. The number in parentheses indicates the number of first place votes the team received.
