IRVINE, Calif. (July 15, 2015) - Orange County Blues FC Head Coach & General Manager Oliver Wyss has announced that Barry Venison has accepted the role of Technical Director, effective immediately. In this new role, Venison will be responsible for player and team development, and will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience of professional soccer at the very highest level.

Venison, who has won many major honors including the League title twice with Liverpool as well as the FA Cup, joined the Blues ahead of the 2015 season as the Technical Advisor. The native of Stanley, County Durham, England, played for Sunderland A.F.C., Liverpool F.C., Newcastle United F.C., Galatasaray S.K., and Southampton F.C. as well as all levels of the England National team. Venison led and captained most of his teams and he still retains the honor of being the youngest ever captain to lead out a team at Wembley in a Cup Final at age 21 in front of 94,000 spectators.

Venison enthused "I am very excited about my role with OC Blues FC as this franchise is at the beginning of a new and very bright dawn. It's my pleasure to be part of the team and working with such dedicated and driven professionals. I have had the good fortune to enjoy much success in my life and I know what it takes to rise to the very top. It is my purpose to help the coaching staff improve the players and the team in as many ways as possible so that OC Blues FC can fulfill its vast potential. I am working with first class coaches, an ambitious and supportive owner in Mr. Mansouri, a motivated group of quality players and in a Southern Californian climate that is second to none...what more can I say?"

OC Blues FC faces SoCal rival LA Galaxy II Thursday night at StubHub Center. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PT.
