LEADING OFF: The Power toppled the Lexington Legends 12-6 last night. Trae Arbet doubled in two runs with two down in the bottom of the first and Stephen Alemais added a solo home run in the home half of the third. West Virginia starter Oddy Nunez was perfect through four innings, striking out four, but Lexington plated four runs against Blake Cederlind in the top of the fifth. In the bottom of the inning, the Power scored six times on six hits and never looked back. Ty Moore and Hunter Owen contributed RBI singles before a bases loaded triple by Arbet. West Virginia scored once in the sixth, once in the seventh on a Clark Eagan home run and once more in the eighth. The Legends tallied two late runs in the ninth. Cederlind garnered the win and Lexington starter Travis Eckert suffered the loss.
HIGH FIVE: Trae Arbet drove in five of the Power's 12 runs on Friday; his first career five RBI day. Arbet has played 163 games during his professional career and had never driven in more than three runs in any one game. Over the first 162, the 2013 5th round pick had four career three RBI games and none since August of 2015.
BACK TO THE TOP: Luis Escobar makes his sixth start of the season tonight and second against the Lexington Legends. The right-hander struck out 12 Legends in his second start of 2017 on April 14 at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. Escobar is second in Minor League Baseball with 45 strikeouts over 27 and a third innings pitched.
ALMOST GREATER THAN: West Virginia's win Friday nearly matched what the club had done offensive over the first full three games of the homestand. The Power scored a total of 13 runs during the Hickory series on 20 combined hits, walked five times and hit two home runs. On Friday, West Virginia scored 12 runs on 16 hits with four walks and hit two homers.
THREEPEAT: West Virginia has won three consecutive home games for the first time this season.
EGAD EAGAN: With three runs batted in on Friday, Clark Eagan matched his career-high for a single game. The outfielder drove in three runs on July 1st 2016 against the Auburn Doubledays. Eagan hit his second career home run last night, both of which have been hit off of Lexington pitchers.
GOT YOUR BACK: Eduardo Vera leads West Virginia with three saves and each has been of a multi-inning variety. Vera has worked four innings once and three innings twice for his saves, all backing Matt Anderson's three wins.
LET'S PLAY THE FEUD: The Power play the Lexington Legends 25 times in 2017, accounting for 18% of West Virginia's full 140 game schedule. The Power are 133-105 since 2005 against Lexington, including a 61-54 mark at Appalachian Power Park. This is the last series between the teams during the first half. West Virginia and Lexington's front offices have combined on a joint promotion this year, paying tribute to the Hatfield and McCoy feud featuring custom jerseys and a golden pig trophy for the winner of the full season series. The Power currently hold a 4-1 lead.
POWER POINTS: Carlos Munoz has reached safely in 11 straight games; the second longest on-base streak this season behind only Logan Ratledge's 13-game run to start the year... The Power are now 4-7 on Cinco de Mayo dating back to 2005 with two of those victories coming against Lexington... Trae Arbet's five RBI night on Friday was the first by a Power player this season. Ke'Bryan Hayes, Daniel Arribas and Logan Hill had five RBI games last year.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh blanked Milwaukee 4-0 in a game that featured a two hour and 27 minute delay and Josh Bell bouncing a home run into the Allegheny River... Indianapolis was rained out for the second straight day.. Altoona was also postponed due to rain and takes on Akron tonight... Bradenton shutout Dunedin 4-0 with Mitch Keller striking out nine over seven innings.
PROMO WATCH: West Virginia battles the Lexington Legends this evening on Baywatch Night. The first 1,000 fans through the gates at 5:00 P.M. will receive a beach towel courtesy of IHOP and the Power will wear custom jerseys that will be auctioned off to benefit Power Baseball Charities.
ON THE AIR: West Virginia Power games can be heard on The Jock 1300 & 1340 AM in the Kanawha Valley, online at wvpower.com and on the TuneIn Radio App.
