Wranglers Wright Named Ironman Of The Week

April 24, 2007 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) - Austin Wranglers News Release

AUSTIN-The Austin Wranglers in conjunction with the Arena Football League are proud to announce that wide receiver/linebacker Sakeen Wright has been named the AFL's Ironman of the Week for Week 8.

Wright (6-3, 225, Rowan), saw his first AFL action in the Wranglers 45-38 overtime victory over Southern Division opponent, the New Orleans VooDoo on Saturday. In his debut, Wright grabbed three catches for 27 yards and one touchdown on offense. Wright, a true receiver, also played at the "Jack" linebacker position and made seven tackles and forced one fumble. His forced fumble came on the VooDoo's overtime possession, when Wright stripped New Orleans wide receiver Jacques Rumph of the ball and it was recovered by Wranglers defensive back Deveron Harper, ending the game and giving Austin the win.

Last week, Wright was signed to the active roster from the Wranglers practice squad, where he had been since the first week of the season.

"Sakeen Wright did a great job for us in his first game," said Wranglers Head Coach Brian Partlow. "He has worked really hard all year to learn the nuances of the AFL game and to improve on his defense. It really paid off for him on Saturday."

The other AFL award winners for Week 8 are Offensive Player of the Week, Dan Alexander - Nashville Kats and ADT Defensive Player of the Week, Rashad Floyd - Colorado Crush.

In 49 other states it's just football. This is Texas - Football Country. For tickets please call 512.339.3939 or visit the Official Website of the Austin Wranglers at for additional information.
