THE GAME:
The Colorado Crush travel to Kansas City for the first of three consecutive road games to face the Brigade on Friday, April 27th at 6:00 p.m. MT. Colorado leads the all-time series with Kansas City 2-0 and captured a 44-40 victory earlier this season at Pepsi Center on March 10th.
Friday night's match-up will be a key contest in the Central Division's final standings. The Chicago Rush currently lead the division by two games with a 6-1 record (one game ahead of Colorado and two games ahead of Kansas City). The Brigade are concluding a three-game divisional swing against the Crush having gone 1-1 in games versus Grand Rapids and Nashville. Colorado is beginning a three-game divisional tilt with K.C. followed by road games against Nashville and Chicago. The next month will be important if the Crush want to win a third straight Central Division crown.
Colorado is currently riding their second two-game winning streak of the season. The team's recent success can be attributed to their defensive play that has seen the club's secondary haul in six interceptions in the last two games and held their opponents scoreless on 12 of their last 27 drives.
The Crush offense has also heated up posting a season-high 63 points last week against Las Vegas and scoring on 10 of their 14 possession against the Gladiators. On Monday, Colorado added veteran wide receiver Alonzo Nix to their roster. Nix has spent the last two seasons with the Nashville Kats and in five games this season has recorded 16 receptions for 213 yards and a touchdown.
The Kansas City Brigade boasts one of the AFL's top defenses and rushing attacks. The Brigade currently rank first in total defense (259.9 yards per game) and fourth in scoring defense (47.6 points per game), while carrying the league's second rated rushing offense (31.3 yards per game).

CRUSH NEXT WEEK:
The Crush travel to Chicago for the second of a three game road swing to face the defending ArenaBowl champion Rush on Monday, May 7th at 5:30 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN2. Chicago currently leads the Central Division by two-games over Colorado.
The contest will pit the AFL's last two ArenaBowl champions and be just the next chapter in one the league's best rivalries. Last season, Colorado sweep the regular season series for the first time in club history, but Chicago would have the final say defeating the Crush in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.

HEAD COACHES:
MIKE DAILIEY, Colorado (104-67, 11th Year): Mike Dailey enters his fourth season in Colorado and 11th as head coach in the AFL, after becoming the Crush's second head coach on June 26, 2003. Dailey joined the Crush following 13 seasons in the Albany/Indiana Firebirds organization, including the final seven as head coach.
One of the most successful and well-respected coaches in AFL history, Dailey's teams have compiled an overall record of 104-67 record, a winning percentage of 60.8. His teams have also made eight postseason appearances and he has won five division titles and two championships. Following the Crush's 44-40 victory over Kansas City on March 10, 2007, Dailey became only the fourth head coach in AFL history to surpass the 100 win mark. He currently stands as the league fourth all-time winningest coach.
In his first season in Colorado, Dailey helped guide the Crush to the largest turnaround in AFL history, inheriting a 2-14 team and leading them to an 11-5 record in 2004. In 1999, Dailey led the Albany Firebirds to their only ArenaBowl championship and was named AFL Coach of the Year. Before being named head coach of the Firebirds in 1997, Dailey served as an assistant in Albany for five seasons.
Dailey began his AFL coaching career with the Washington Commandos where he served as offensive/defensive line coach in 1990. He joined the Firebirds organization in the same capacity in 1991.
Prior to the AFL, Dailey worked as an assistant coach at Towson State University and was the offensive coordinator at Montgomery College-Rockville (Md.). Dailey got his start in coaching in 1981 as a 22-year-old assistant at Georgetown Prep High School in Rockville, Md. The move to coaching followed a semi-pro football career in the Washington D.C. area.

KEVIN PORTER, Kansas City (7-16, 2nd Year): Kevin Porter became the inaugural head coach of the Kansas City Brigade in 2006 with the reputation as one of the Arena Football League's finest young defensive minds, based on his experience of a five-year NFL playing career and coaching tenure in the Arena Football League and af2. In his first season as an AFL defensive coordinator, the VooDoo finished the season with the second ranked scoring defense in the AFL, surrendering only 721 points, the sixth ranked defense and the fourth ranked pass defense.
Porter is the winningest coach in af2 history with a 45-27 record. The head coach of the Macon Knights from 2001-03 before joining the VooDoo, Porter took his team to the ArenaCup 2003 championship final game. Porter started his coaching career as head coach of the Pensacola Barracudas, in 2000. As an af2 head coach, Porter took his teams to the playoffs all four seasons. Porter started his coaching career as the defensive backs coach of the AFL Orlando Predators in 1999.
A third round pick by the Kansas City Chiefs in 1988, Porter was a four-year starter at strong safety for the Chiefs, recording 290 tackles, six forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries during his five year NFL career, which he closed out with the New York Jets in 1992. Prior to being drafted by the Chiefs, Porter was a four-year starter at cornerback at Auburn, where he was named honorable mention All-America as a senior.
He and his wife Annjela, have two sons, Jacob (6) and Kellen (2).
LAST TIME THESE TEAMS MET:
DENVER (2/10/07) - Colorado Crush head coach Mike Dailey secured his 100th career AFL coaching victory with a 44-40 win over the Kansas City Brigade in front of 15,126 fans at Pepsi Center Saturday night. With the win, Dailey becomes only the fourth head coach in AFL history to have 100 or more career wins.
Kansas City (1-1) would pull even twice in the contest, but would never take the lead as Colorado (1-1) held on for their first victory of the season.
Kicker Jason Ball connected on a 21-yard field goal on Colorado's first possession to give the Crush an early 3-0 lead. Ball would go a perfect 3-for-3 on his field goal attempts and 5-for-5 on PATs on the night.
Colorado built a 17-7 advantage, following a Brigade four-and-out, when Offensive Player of the Game Willie Quinnie hauled in a 7-yard touchdown strike from John Dutton. Kansas City would answer with 10 seconds remaining in the half as wide receiver Charles Frederick caught a 6-yard pass from Raymond Philyaw to cut the Colorado lead to 17-14. Unfortunately for the Brigade, the ten seconds remaining in the half proved to be too much time for the Crush offense, as Colorado drove 13 yards setting up a Ball 38-yard field goal as time expired.
Kansas City would score on their first drive of the second half as Jerel Myers caught a 4-yard pass from Philyaw, but the ensuing PAT was blocked by Colorado leaving the score at 20 apiece. The Brigade would also tie the score at 27-27 at the end of the third quarter when Philyaw found Cyron Brown for a 7-yard score.
The game's turning point however came when the Crush defense forced their second four-and-out of the game on K.C.'s first possession of the fourth quarter. Colorado was able to capitalize on the defensive stop when Ball connected on his third field goal of the night from 22 yards out, giving the Crush a 10-point lead, 37-27. Philyaw's fifth touchdown pass of the game, to Myers from 24-yards with 27 seconds left, cut the Colorado lead to four points, which proved to be the game's difference.
CRUSH LAST WEEK:
DENVER (4/20/07) - A huge third quarter flourish by the Colorado Crush sparked a 63-53 victory over the Las Vegas Gladiators on Friday night. The Crush scored 26 unanswered points in the third quarter led by DB Rashad Floyd's pair of interceptions that he returned for touchdowns to give Colorado their second straight win.
Offensively, the Crush were paced by WR Damian Harrell's four touchdowns and 91 receiving yards on nine catches. QB John Dutton had one of his best games of the season completing 24-of-32 passes for 185 yards and a season-high tying six touchdowns. For the Gladiators, QB Brian Jones threw six touchdowns on 30-of-41 passes for 331 yards and rushed for two more scores, but his three interceptions proved costly.
Las Vegas built a 16-point advantage at 33-17 when WR Thabiti Davis scored on a six-yard pass from Jones with 35 seconds remaining in the first half. Colorado ended the second quarter on FB/LB Saul Patu's one-yard touchdown rush with 16 seconds left on the clock to cut the Gladiators lead to 33-24. The Colorado defense would hold Las Vegas as the half ended setting the stage for the defensive unit's third period breakout.
The Crush would ultimately score 33 straight points to take a 50-33 lead to begin the fourth quarter. Las Vegas stopped the bleeding when Jones rushed in from two-yards out for his second touchdown on the ground. The Gladiators worked their way back into the game cutting the Colorado lead back down to three points at 56-53 as Sidney Haugbrook hauled in a two-yard strike from Jones with 48 seconds remaining in the game. The Crush would seal the victory on their next drive as Dutton found WR Brad Pyatt for a 14-yard score and a final 10-point advantage.
THINGS TO WATCH:
YOUNG BLOOD:
The Colorado Crush took the field in Week 1 with four rookies on their active roster. Not since head coach Mike Dailey's arrival to Colorado in 2004 has he had that many first-year players on his Crush active roster to begin a season.
The Crush currently have five rookies on their active roster with four of those players starting.
LOCAL TIES:
This season the Crush have found a lot of good-young talent right in their back yard. Here is a list of players that have Colorado ties:
- DL QUINN DORSEY attended Manual High School in Denver.
- FB/LB ANTHONY DUNN attended Centauri High School in Manassa, CO and later played at the University of Northern Colorado.
- OL BRETT HUYSER played his collegiate football at the Air Force Academy.
- WR BRAD PYATT has played football at all three levels of his career in Colorado (Arvada West High School, Northern Colorado and the Crush).
BUILDING A WINNING TRADITION:
The Crush are the winningest team in the AFL regular season since head coach Mike Dailey's arrival, having tied for the league's best record in 2004 (11-5) and finishing with the American Conference's top seed in 2005 (10-6) and 2006 (11-5).

LET'S MAKE IT THREE:
Last season, Colorado was the only team to repeat as a division champion. This year, they'll look to become the first team since the New York Dragons (2003-2005) to repeat as divisional champions in three consecutive seasons.
