April 24, 2007 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release
NEW YORK - Nashville Kats FB/LB DAN ALEXANDER, Colorado Crush DB RASHAD FLOYD, and Austin Wranglers WR/LB SAKEEN WRIGHT have been named Offensive Player, ADT Defensive Player, and Ironman of the Week, respectively, for Week 8 of the 2007 season.
OFFENSIVE: Alexander (6-0, 255, Nebraska) set AFL all-time single-game rushing records with 19 attempts and six rushing touchdowns as the Nashville Kats defeated the Kansas City Brigade, 49-40, in Nashville on Friday. Alexander, in his second AFL season, accounted for six of the Kats seven total touchdowns and rushed for a game-high 59 yards. Alexander ranks second on the all-time single-season rushing touchdowns list with 24. He can tie and/or break the single-season record of 26 rushing touchdowns in a season this week as the Kats (4-4) travel to Dallas to take on the Desperados (7-1) this Friday, April 27, at 8:30 p.m. ET (SIRIUS Radio Channel 119). Alexander's 19 rushing attempts bests the previous high of 17, set by QB MAJOR HARRIS of the Columbus Thunderbolts in 1991.
ADT DEFENSIVE: Floyd (5-9, 180, Portland St.) returned two interceptions for touchdowns of 28 and eight yards during the third quarter as the Colorado Crush scored 30 unanswered points on their way to a 63-53 victory over the Las Vegas Gladiators on Friday. Trailing by 10 points entering the third quarter, Floyd's first interception return cut Las Vegas' lead to seven. His second put the Crush, who scored 23 points in the third, up for good. Floyd, in his sixth AFL season, also notched 8.5 tackles for Colorado, who face the Kansas City Brigade (4-3) in a battle for second place in the Central Division this Friday, April 27, at 8 p.m. ET at Kemper Arena.
IRONMAN: Wright (6-3, 225, Rowan) forced his first career AFL fumble that was recovered by Wranglers DB DEVERON HARPER to end the game in overtime and give the Austin Wranglers their first overtime victory in franchise history, a 45-38 win over the visiting VooDoo, at the Frank Erwin Center on Saturday. Wright, in his first career AFL game, registered 7.0 tackles on defense, three receptions for 27 yards on offense, and the game-winning forced fumble in overtime for the Wranglers (3-5). Austin next hosts Southern Division rival Tampa Bay on Sunday, May 6, at 4 p.m. ET (SUN - Live, FSN Southwest - Delay, Monday, 5/7, 12 a.m. ET).
