
Wranglers sign two Texas high school football products

The Austin Wranglers have signed AFL veteran center Jorge Diaz and OS Jarrail Jackson. Diaz played high school football at Katy earning all-district and all-conference honors. He went on to play football at Kilgore Junior College and eventually to Texas A&M-Kingsville. He was signed to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted rookie free agent in 1996 and started 47 of 52 games with the Bucs. In 2000, he played in nine games with the Dallas Cowboys after signing as a free agent. Diaz was signed to the Tampa Bay Storm in 2003 as a reserve center and played in their final regular season game. In 2004, Diaz spent the first three weeks of the AFL season on the Tampa Bay Storm's injured reserve list. He started in two contests before returning to injured reserve and being waived on April 16.
Jackson was a standout at Yates High School in Houston went on to play wide receiver at Oklahoma. In his senior season under Bob Stoops, Jackson earned Big 12 honors hauling in a career-high and Sooner-record 54 receptions for 654 yards and seven touchdowns. Jackson completed his college career with a total of 67 receptions for 1,040 yards and eight touchdowns in 46 games. After graduating from OU, Jackson spent the 2000 season playing nine games in the af2 with the Tulsa Talons. He spent the first part of the 2001 AFL season on the practice squad of the Oklahoma Wranglers before returning to Tulsa. He hooked up with current Wranglers Head Coach Skip Foster and led the team with 97 receptions for 1,383 yards and 29 touchdowns while working on special teams posting 34 kickoff returns for 747 yards and five touchdowns. In 2002, Jackson spent his first season in the AFL with the Buffalo Destroyers, playing in two games and totaling eight catches for 126 yards and four touchdowns. The 2003 season marked his AFL breakout year, as he finishe third on the Buffalo team in receptions (51), receiving yards (537) and receiving touchdowns (7). Jackson was third in the AFL in kick returns (74), fourth in kick return yards (1,642), eighth in kick return average (22.2) and eighth in returns for a touchdown (8). He set Buffalo single-season records for kick returns and kick return yards and finished seventh in the AFL with 2,249 all-purpose yards. Jackson played six games with the Columbus Destroyers in 2004 accumulating 10 receptions with 104 yards.
The Wranglers waived OS Shannon Culver who started in four games with the team totaling 26 receptions for 307 yards and five touchdowns. Culver also returned seven kickoffs for the Wranglers for a total of 122 yards. The Wranglers placed OL/DL Lucas Yarnell on injured reserve and OL/DL Jamarr Ward on 24-hour recallable waivers.
