Austin Wranglers News Release
AUSTIN, TX - Today the Austin Wranglers announced the signing of seasoned lineman Desmond Byrd.
Byrd (6-3, 300, Oregon) has played with five teams over his eight-year AFL career. He began the 2006 season with the Grand Rapids Rampage, playing in three games, recording 2.5 tackles before being released.
With the Gladiators for the past two seasons, Byrd's best year in Las Vegas was 2004 when he played in 16 games and tallied 9.5 tackles, two sacks, one pass breakup and 2.5 tackles for a loss of 14 yards.
He also spent time with the Carolina Cobras (2003), Detroit Fury (2002) and Florida Bobcats (1999-2001), while attending training camp with the Arizona Rattlers (1998).
Humphrey and Wilson to Injured Reserve
Following last Saturday's victory against the Tampa Bay Storm, lineman Aaron Humphrey and wide receiver/linebacker Sir Mawn Wilson were placed on injured reserve. Humphrey suffered a leg injury in the game and previously had missed three weeks earlier in the season due to knee surgery.
Wilson, who was inactive in weeks 10 and 11, re-injured his shoulder. Both players will spend a minimum of two weeks on injured reserve, and then a decision can be made on a week-to-week basis.
