Grand Rapids Rampage News Release

The Grand Rapids Rampage has announced that lineman Bryant Shaw will be signing a contract to play for the NFL's Detroit Lions. Shaw will report for offseason workouts in Detroit Thursday.

"The Lions saw the same thing in Shaw I saw," said Rampage head coach Sparky McEwen. "This could not have happened to a better person and a great football player."

Shaw (6'03," 287 lbs., Mississippi College) played in the team's first twelve games and recorded 8.5 tackles, a sack, two pass breakups and a forced fumble. He also returned an opponent's PAT attempt for two points. Prior to joining the Rampage, Shaw spent three seasons with the Colorado Crush, where he won an ArenaBowl title last season.

"I'm thrilled and very appreciative of this opportunity with the Lions," said Shaw, who is slated to play defensive tackle. "The Rampage is a first-class organization, and Mr. DeVos and Coach McEwen really take care of the players here. If the NFL doesn't work out, I'd love to finish my career here."

Shaw becomes just the third player ever to be signed by a NFL team in the same season as he played for the Rampage. Previously, offensive specialist Terrill Shaw signed with the Kansas City Chiefs (2003) and WR/DB Raphael Ball signed with the Miami Dolphins (1998) and the Washington Redskins (1999) after playing seasons with the Rampage.

The Rampage returns home to Centennial Wireless Field at Van Andel Arena, where the team has won five of its last seven contests, to take on the Western Division-leading Arizona Rattlers this Sunday, April 23 at 2:00 p.m. Grand Rapids plays three of its final four games at home. Tickets for this and all Rampage home games are available through StarTicketsPLUS (1.800.585.3737), at all Michigan Meijer locations, at The Zone (located on the west side of Van Andel Arena).
