
Wranglers set opening day roster

WICHITA, Kan. ¾ The Wichita Wranglers open the 2006 Texas League season with 12 pitchers, 3 catchers, 7 infielders and 3 outfielders.
Five of the Royals top ten prospects, as rated by Baseball America, make up the Wranglers 25-man roster and will open the 2006 season in Wichita.
Alex Gordon will play third base for the Wranglers. Baseball America named the former University of Nebraska star the 2005 College Player of the Year, and now rates Gordon the Royals number one prospect.
Billy Butler, Chris Lubanski and Mitch Maier will make up the Wranglers outfield this season. All three players are former first round draft picks and Royals top ten prospects according to Baseball America.
Donnie Murphy will play second base for the Wranglers. He is also a Royals top ten prospect.
Murphy played 50 games for Wichita last season, where he hit .313 with 10 home runs and 32 RBI, before being called up to finish 2005 in Kansas City.
Manager Frank White begins his third season with the Wranglers. Larry Carter returns for his fifth season as pitching coach. Al LeBoeuf enters his first full season as the Wranglers hitting coach. Charles Leddon is back for a fourth season as trainer.
