Austin Wranglers News Release
After a successful inaugural season in the AFL, the Austin Wranglers have added to its ownership team, pending approval from the AFL Board of Directors in November. Led by Austin businessman and new Wranglers' President Doug MacGregor, the extended group will continue to build on the phenomenon of Arena Football and looks to incite the evolution of the AFL in Central Texas.
"My goal is to help the Wranglers franchise transition into a high-performance team on and off the field," said MacGregor. "As season ticket holders, I saw how Austin benefited from the Wranglers and I assure that the Wranglers will continue to embrace our neighbors and enhance the community for years to come."
As the team's President, MacGregor will assume all of the team's daily business operations. With his global experience in the high-tech industry during times of exponential growth, MacGregor will apply his strong business skills to Greg Feste's vision of professional football in Central Texas. "Greg has built a first class operation that has brought the explosive action of arena football to our community," said Macgregor. "We have a great foundation to build from as we take the Wranglers to the next level." Feste will remain a member of the ownership group.
The Wranglers football operations will continue to be directed by General Manager Glyn Milburn. "I am very optimistic about the changes that are taking place within the Wranglers," said Milburn. "Head Coach Skip Foster and I have been working hard to build the Wranglers' 2005 roster with players that complement one another and will work hard to bring a championship home to Austin."
Milburn worked with Foster prior to the Wranglers' 2004 season to build a roster with a solid veteran foundation, a young group of developing arena football players, and a promising collection of rookies. Four Wranglers players received All-AFL honors for their performances last season. Former AFL Lineman of the Year, Tom Briggs, was selected to the All-AFL First Team, and two returning Wranglers were selected to the League's All-Rookie team, Longhorn defensive end Aaron Humphrey and Ft. Worth-native OS Tacoma Fontaine.
In the team's debut season, the Wranglers racked-up six wins in the team's first nine games and finished with a commendable 8-8 record. The Wranglers are the first professional team to call the Frank Erwin Center home. During their 2004 campaign, the team averaged 11,120 fans per game at the Erwin Center.
Austin Wranglers sponsorships and season tickets are now available to purchase or renew. To inquire about corporate partnerships or reserve seats for the 2005 season, call 512.491.6600.
