Chicago Rush News Release
The Chicago Rush has signed highly coveted free agent lineman Chad Pegues (puh-Geese) to a two-year contract, the team announced today.
Pegues (6-1, 285, Illinois State) joins the Rush after spending the past three seasons with the Dallas Desperados, where he recorded 36 tackles and 8.5 sacks. Last season, Pegues was one of the Desperados' top defensive linemen, recording 13.5 tackles and 2.5 sacks in 13 games.
"We are very excited about the acquisition of Chad," said Rush head coach Mike Hohensee. "With the departure of James Baron (traded to Nashville) we were looking for another dominant presence in the middle to secure an already outstanding line."
Prior to joining the Desperados, Pegues won the 2001 XFL championship as a member of the Los Angeles Extreme and then joined the AFL's Los Angeles Avengers for one game at the conclusion of the 2001 season.
In college, Pegues started for three seasons at defensive tackle for the University of Miami (FL) before transferring to Illinois State for his senior season.
As a Redbird, Pegues was named to the 1998 Burger King I-AA Coaches' All-America team and selected to play in the 1999 East West Shrine Game after a season in which he recorded 56 tackles and three sacks, and helped lead the Redbirds to their first-ever appearance in the I-AA playoffs.
In April 1999 Pegues signed as an undrafted free agent with the Cincinnati Bengals and spent the 1999 season on the team's practice squad. He attended training camp with the Bengals in 2000, but was released prior to the start of the regular season.
The 2005 Arena Football League season begins in January and reservations for 2005 season tickets currently are being accepted.
