
WR Steve Bergeski Commits to Roughnecks for 2011 Season

MIDLAND, TX. : The West Texas Roughnecks are excited to announce on Wednesday, October 6 that wide receiver Steve Bergeski has committed for his second season with the Roughnecks in 2011. The announcement was made from a press conference held Wednesday afternoon from the Courtyard by Marriott in Midland. In 12 games played during the 2010 regular season Bergeski finished second in the Roughnecks receiving department with 59 receptions with 793 receiving yards. Bergeski finished tied for first with WR Ryan Bugg with 15 touchdown receptions and led the Roughnecks in average yards per reception (13.4). Bergeski (6'2", 200 lbs.) first signed with the Roughnecks back on March 18, 2010 following the Roughnecks second game of the 2010 regular season against the Amarillo Venom.

He is an explosive player who became an important factor in our offense last season especially during our push towards the playoffs. Steve provided versatility in our passing game last season because of his size and athletic ability. He has the ability to be a deep-play threat along with being a possession wide receiver, and he provides veteran leadership and experience for our ball club." stated West Texas Roughnecks Head Coach Chris Williams.
In the Roughnecks final four games of the 2010 regular season, Bergeski posted a combined 22 receptions for 293 yards and nine touchdown receptions. In the Roughnecks 2010 opening round playoff loss to Amarillo, Bergeski led the Roughnecks with 11 receptions for 89 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Bergeski finished 12th among all IFL receivers in receptions (59) and finished sixth in the league in receiving yards (793).
Before his first season with the Roughnecks, Bergeski spent the previous three seasons with the Amarillo Dusters (formerly of the AF2) and the Orlando Predators of the AFL. As a rookie in 2007 with Amarillo, Bergeski started all 16 games and led the team in every receiving category by posting 121 receptions for 1,478 yards and 33 touchdowns. Bergeski finished ninth among all AF2 receivers in receptions during the '07 season.
Bergeski played collegiately at Central Connecticut State University where he posted his best season in 2005. Bergeski recorded 26 receptions for 452 receiving yards and six touchdowns during the '05 season.
