Amarillo, TX 10/6/10 - The Venom name Rodney Blackshear Head Coach for the 2011 Indoor Football Season, the team announced earlier today at a press conference in the Amarillo Civic Center in Amarillo.
Coach Blackshear is no stranger to the Texas Panhandle. He attended Texas Tech University where he was a record setting wide receiver for the Red Raiders. He led the team in receiving in 1990 and again in 1991. Blackshear still holds the record of single game highest average yards per catch at 50.3 and career highest at 20.8 yards at Texas Tech. He was also awarded the "Team MVP" honor in 1990 and "Team Leadership" honor in 1991. After graduating from Texas Tech in 1991 the Miami Dolphins picked Blackshear up as an undrafted free agent. After a brief stint with the Dolphins, Blackshear then played five seasons in the AFL, where in 1998, he was named All-Arena First Team (WR/DB) and All Ironman Team honoree. In 2001, he concluded his playing career by winning the Arena Bowl with the Grand Rapids Rampage .

- 2005-2006 Wide Receiver coach for University of Houston Cougars
- 2006-2007 Coached with former Venom Coach Jon Lyles at CenTex Barracudas.
- 2007-2008 Head Coach of AF2 Lubbock Renagades
- 2008-2009 Head Coach of AF2 South Georgia Wildcats
- 2010 Blackshear was brought in to be head coach of IFL Abilene Rough Riders midway through their season, as their head coach was fired after a 0-5 start to the season. The team won their first game with Blackshear at the helm.
