New York Dragons News Release
Original Dragon WR/DB Todd Doxzon has re-signed with the team for the stretch run to the ArenaBowl XIX Playoffs. Doxzon spent his first three AFL seasons with the Dragons from 2001 to 2003 before joining Carolina in 2004. He was a member of the Georgia Force for the first half of this season.
"We think Todd Doxzon is a solid pickup for us," said Dragons head coach Weylan Harding. "Todd is familiar with the organization and with the personnel we have here. He's definitely a positive addition to our team."
A former backup to Dan Marino on the 1998 Miami Dolphins -- he has since converted from QB to WR -- Doxzon began his Arena League career with the Dragons in their inaugural 2001 season. In his three-year stint on Long Island as one of Aaron Garcia's favorite targets, Doxzon recorded 103 receptions for 1,482 yards and 41 touchdowns. He had his best year statistically in 2004 with Carolina when he set numerous team records with 94 receptions for 1,142 yards and 23 touchdowns. With Georgia this season, he appeared in two games with six receptions for 55 yards and one score. In his five-season career, Doxzon has 206 receptions for 2,877 yards and 65 touchdowns.
Besides with his time with the Dolphins, where he appeared in nine games in 1998 primarily on special teams, Doxzon also had training camp stints with the New York Jets in 1997 and New England Patriots in 1998 prior to joining the Dolphins. He also played for the Los Angeles Xtreme of the XFL in 2001.
Doxzon spent four years at Iowa State from 1993-1996, where he completed 244 of 443 passes for 3,158 yards and 21 touchdowns. He added 364 rush attempts for 1,045 yards and 14 scores placing him third on Cyclones all-time quarterback rushing list. In his senior season, he was named an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention.
In other news, the team activated OL/DL Ufuoma Pela from the Injured Reserve and placed him on waivers.
The Dragons return home to the Nassau Coliseum this weekend to take on divisional rival Philadelphia Soul on Sunday April 24. Great seats are still available and fans should call 1-866-AFL-TIXX for more information.
