Worrell Leads Steamers' Bats to 10-6 Win

July 14, 2018 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Edenton Steamers News Release

Bryson Worrell popped off for four hits and four runs batted in on Saturday night to give the Steamers a 10-6 victory over the Wilson Tobs at Historic Hicks Field.

The win extended the Clams' win streak to three straight, making them 4-6 in the second half. Wilson is now 7-2, losing the past two nights.

Edenton set the pace very early with eight runs in the opening frame. Tyler Jones and Zane Harris roped two-baggers each while Worrell and Anthony Jefferson added base hits. Nate Gardner and Nick Caruso also contributed a RBI walk. Worrell batted a second time in the inning and clobbered a bases-clearing double to send the Steamers up 8-1.

Now four games following the All-Star break, the Clams have scored 19 combined runs in the first two frames of each game to give their starting pitchers a more comfortable outing.

Nate Gardner logged his first game at the plate since Opening Night on May 31. The designated hitter, Gardner finished 1-for-2 with two walks, a hit by pitch, one run scored and one RBI.

Troy Maslowski started for the second straight game in right field after not seeing an at-bat in 15 contests. With two hits last night, Maslowski crushed a solo shot in the fifth inning for his first round-tripper of the summer.

Zane Harris continued his hitting streak to eight games. He now has 11 runs driven in over that span.

On the mound, Collin Storms picked up his first win in four innings out of relief. He surrendered two runs and fanned five hitters.

Matt Gill started and tossed three innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits and one walk. Carson Lester made his Steamers debut and delivered a shutout inning.

Kyle Shimp threw the ninth inning and did not hand Wilson a run.

David Harrison was tabbed with the loss after plating eight runners in two innings.

On Wilson's offense, Jack Duffy powered three hits, including a two-run home run off Storms. Brenton Doyle finished 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and a base on balls.

The Steamers return to action on Monday night traveling to Morehead City.
