Worcester Bravehearts News Release
WORCESTER, Mass. - It was another beat down on the part of the Bravehearts offense tonight, as Worcester's bats took advantage of Torrington's sloppy play and lack of pitching.
Thanks to six errors by the Titans defense, the Bravehearts bats took care of business, defeating Torrington easily 15-2 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field in front of 1,439 fans.
It can be said that the game was over as quickly as it began. The Bravehearts exploded for an early 7-0 lead in the first inning, chasing Titans starting pitcher Chris Enns (Quinnipiac/Canton, CT) after just 1/3 of an inning. He allowed seven runs, three of which were earned, giving up four hits and one walk, while striking out one batter. Two Bravehearts scored on wild pitches, but the biggest hit came from Zack Tower (Franklin Pierce/Auburn, MA) when he roped a two-run double to left field.
That was all that Worcester's Kevin Stone (Harvard/Stamford, CT) needed to receive the win in his outing. Stone lasted five innings for the Bravehearts, giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits while walking four batters and striking out seven Titans batters. Evan Klugerman (Bucknell/Weston, FL) recorded two RBI on a single to right in the fourth, which would be the only two runs in the game.
Adding salt to the wound of the Titans was Dylan Harris (Saint Leo/Land O Lakes, FL) when he blasted his first homerun of the summer in the fifth inning. Harris went 4-for-6 on the evening with that solo homerun and two runs scored. The Bravehearts would add two more runs in the fifth, making the rout 12-2 at that point.
The Titans surrendered three more runs in the seventh inning, thanks to two wild pitches that plated two runs and Evan Hirschbaum's (Washington College/N. Massapequa, N.Y.) pinch- hit RBI single, completing the scoring for the Bravehearts at 15-2.
Taylor Williams (Xavier/Castle Rock, CO), Peter Bovenzi (Richmond/Lunenburg, MA), and Danny Barlock (Holy Cross/Shrewsbury, MA) went four scoreless innings in relief for
