Worcester Bravehearts News Release

WORCESTER, Mass. - As the Bravehearts look for consistent play on the field to close the regular season strong, they first had to overcome Mother Nature for a second consecutive night. After last night's home game against Pittsfield was suspended due to rain in the fourth inning, the Worcester Bravehearts (32-16) managed to get nearly seven innings in tonight in a 9-2 victory over the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs (18-30) at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.

For the first few innings, it looked bleak for the Bravehearts and starter Greg Stagani (West Liberty/Richmond, OH). Worcester fell into an early 2-0 hole in the first inning. Jacob Bryne(Assumption/Grafton, MA) roped a single to center field that scored two runners for Wachusett.

The Bravehearts offense was quiet at first against Dirt Dawgs starter Naushon Galbraith (Elon University/Newton, MA). He kept Worcester scoreless for the first three innings, but in the fourth, the floodgates opened. Galbraith would finish the night lasting 3 2/3 innings, giving up four runs (two earned) on four hits, walking three and striking out five.

Worcester's Chad Miller (Saint Leo/Sarasota, FL) drove home a run on a fielder's choice, and thanks to an error by the second baseman, Ryan Ward (Bryant/Millbury, MA) came around from second to tie the game 2-2. The Bravehearts would double their run output in the same inning with Nick Rybarczyk hitting a two-run double, making the score 4-2.

That's all the help Stagani would need to settle in for his fourth win this summer. He lasted six full innings, giving up two runs on five hit, walking one batter and fanning seven more. He currently holds the Bravehearts single season record for most strikeouts in a season with 51 this summer.

The Bravehearts would add three more runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to extend the lead to 9-2. Miller would finish the night with three RBI, two of which came from a two-run double in the sixth. Newly acquired Braveheart Greg Kocinski (Marist/Belle Mead, NJ) had quite the debut, going 3-for-4 with a run and a RBI. Ward also had a great night, going 3-for-4 at the plate.

The Worcester Bravehearts hit the road tomorrow, July 31st, for a 4:00PM start time up in Portsmouth, NH against the East Division leading Seacoast Mavericks. Tickets for all future Bravehearts home games are available at the Hanover Insurance Park box office, online at worcesterbravehearts.com, or by calling 508-438-3773.
