The Sharks dropped Game 6 in Manchester 2-1 in overtime on Friday to close out their record breaking season. Worcester finished the regular season with 49 wins, 104 points, and was crowned the Atlantic Division champions for the first time in franchise history. It was the second straight season that the Sharks bowed out in the second round of the Atlantic Division Finals.

Rewind the Tape:

Game 1 - 4.25.10 - Worcester 4 - Manchester 3 - W - DCU Center

The Worcester Sharks erased a two-goal deficit and hung on to defeat the Manchester Monarchs in game one of the best-of-seven Atlantic Division finals, 4-3 at the DCU Center Sunday night. Steven Zalewski provided the heroics late in the third period as Worcester now leads the series one game to none. Dean Strong, Cory Quirk, and Benn Ferriero had the other goals for Worcester. Dennis McCauley chipped in with two assists as well. It was the first time in Sharks franchise history that they have won game one of a playoff series.

Game 2 - 4.28.10 - Worcester 2 - Manchester 3 - OTL - DCU Center

The Sharks were unable to hold a third period lead and they fell to the Manchester Monarchs in overtime, 3-2, at the DCU Center Wednesday night in game two of the Atlantic Division Finals. Bud Holloway scored his fifth game-winning goal of the playoffs to lift the Monarchs to victory. Brandon Mashinter scored his first professional playoff goal and Steven Zalewski tallied two assists for the Sharks in the losing effort. Alex Stalock made 28 saves for the Sharks.

Game 3 - 4.30.10 - Worcester 0 - Manchester 5 - L - Verizon Wireless Arena

Worcester surrendered three power-play goals and could not beat Jonathan Bernier as they dropped game three of the Atlantic Division Finals to Manchester, 5-0 at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night. Alex Stalock stopped 31 shots in the losing effort and kept Worcester in the game early as the Sharks never received a power play in the game. The Sharks were whistled for 45 penalty minutes and the Monarchs just four in a game that saw Manchester have eight power play chances.

Game 4 - 5.1.10 - Worcester 3 - Manchester 2 - W - Verizon Wireless Arena

The Sharks scored two goals in the third period to overcome a one goal deficit and shocked the Monarchs in Game 4 of the Atlantic Division Finals, 3-2 at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday night. Worcester scored the first goal of the game for the first time in the series, and came from behind for the third time in the playoffs with a stunning goal from Derek Joslin with 33.3 seconds remaining in the third period to tie the series at 2-2. Ryan Vesce scored in the first, Cory Quirk tied the score in the third, and Brandon Mashinter added three assists in the victory.

Game 5 - 5.5.10 - Worcester 0 - Manchester 1 - L - DCU Center

For the second time in three games the Sharks were unable to beat Jonathan Bernier and Manchester received a record-tying sixth game-winning playoff goal from Bud Holloway as the Monarchs defeated the Sharks, 1-0, in game five of the Atlantic Division Finals at the DCU Center Wednesday night. Alex Stalock was sharp in net making 24 saves for Worcester, but it was the Sharks inability to build sustained pressure in the attacking zone that loomed large.

Game 6 - 5.7.10 - Worcester 3 - Manchester 2 - OTL - Verizon Wireless Arena Viatcheslav Voynov scored 1:55 into the overtime period and the Worcester Sharks were eliminated from the Calder Cup playoffs, 2-1, in game six at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night. Ryan Vesce scored the only goal of the game for Worcester as the Sharks lost the best-of-seven series, four games to two. Alex Stalock made 25 saves in the season ending loss.

Sharks in the Atlantic: Sharks take home Atlantic Division Title!

The Sharks finished swimming in 1st place with 104 points (49-25-3-3) in the Atlantic Division through 80 games, three points ahead of the second place Pirates, 9 points ahead of the third place Manchester Monarchs, and 16 points ahead of the fourth place Lowell Devils. The Sharks had an 18 point cushion over 5th place Sound Tigers, a 21 point edge over the 6th place Wolf Pack and a 26 point advantage over the 7th place Bruins. The 8th place Springfield Falcons (66 points) rounded out a very choppy Atlantic Division.

Playoff Shark Bites:

*From east to west..... The Sharks had 12 players that saw action in both the AHL and NHL this season (McLaren, Zalewski, Vesce, Joslin, McGinn, Couture, Callahan, Ferriero, Mitchell, Demers, McCarthy, and Helminen). The Sharks had 11 players accomplish that feat last season. Logan Couture, Ryan Vesce, Benn Ferriero, Jason Demers, and Frazer McLaren have each recorded their first NHL goals this season. Jamie McGinn, Torrey Mitchell, Logan Couture, Jason Demers, and Dwight Helminen are currently (May 10) on recall to San Jose. The Worcester Sharks had 69 CALL-UPS this season to San Jose.

* The Sharks are 14-15 all time in the Calder Cup playoffs.

*Home Cooking.... the Sharks are 7-7 in 14 playoff games at the DCU Center.... Including a 2-3 record this season

*Road Warriors... the Sharks are 7-8 in 15 playoff games on the road... including a 4-2 record this season.

*5th time a charm... Worcester won their first ever Game 1 to open a series in a 4-3 win over the Monarchs on April 25.

*Finally, Game 2... Worcester won their first Game 2 in four tries in franchise history in a 3-2 overtime win over the Devils at the DCU Center on April 15th.

*Special Teams... the Sharks went 7-for-35 (20.0%) on the power play in the playoffs and 44-for-52 (84.6%) on the penalty kill.

*Jolly Joslin... after going goalless in his first 17 playoff games with the Sharks, Joslin had goals in back-to-back games in Games 2 and 3 vs. the Devils... his four goals in this season's playoffs was tied for tops on the team... Derek has also played the most playoff games with Worcester in franchise history (27).

*Three 3rd period firsts.... Dean Strong, Cory Quirk, and Steve Zalewski all scored their first AHL playoff goals in the third period in the come-from-behind victory over the Monarchs in Game 1.

*Mr. OT... the Sharks are 2-5 in overtime playoff games in franchise history, with Ryan Vesce scoring both of the overtime game winners. Vesce scored at 21:07 of overtime in Game 3 vs. the Wolf Pack in the Atlantic Division Semifinals on April 20th last year and scored at 19:03 in overtime in Game 2 vs. the Devils on April 15th.

*Mr. April... with eight points (2-6-8) this playoff season, Dan DaSilva is the all-time leader in Sharks franchise history with 18 points (5-13-18).

*Dirty Dozen... With Alex Stalock making his first professional playoff start in Game 1 vs. the Devils on Wednesday, it broke a streak of 12 straight playoff games started by Thomas Greiss... Stalock started all 11 playoff games for Worcester this playoff season.

*Hey Mr. T.J.... T.J. Trevelyan had four goals in eight playoff games for the Sharks... previously; Trevelyan had 17 points (8-9-17) in 23 career playoff games with the Providence Bruins.

*Scores in bunches... Benn Ferriero had not scored in 24 games before finding the back of the net in Game 4 vs. the Devils.... Benn finished with four goals in 11 playoff games.

*AHL Leader Board... Frazer McLaren ranks 2nd with 37 penalty minutes.... Stalock ranks 5th in GAA with a 2.28 GAA... Benn Ferriero is ranked 9th (4-2-6), Brandon Mashinter ranked 9th (1-5-6), and John McCarthy ranked 19th (2-3-5) in rookie scoring...Danny Groulx ranks 7th among defenseman with seven points (1-6-7) and Derek Joslin 11th with five points (4-1-5).

*I have a ring... Danny Groulx won the Calder Cup with the Hamilton Bulldogs in 2007 and coach Roy Sommer won as a player with the Maine Mariners in 1984.

*Score 1st... The Sharks went 4-1 when scoring the first goal in a game in the playoffs. 2-4 when they allow the first strike.

*Stingy D... Worcester is ranked 2nd in the AHL allowing just 2.36GA per game... the Sharks were 11th with 2.45 goals scored per playoff game.

*Take the early lead... The Sharks were 4-1 when leading after the first period of play in the playoffs.

*Sin Bin... Frazer McLaren has 87 penalty minutes in 23 playoff games with the Sharks for the most playoff penalty minutes in franchise history.
