Mohegan Wolves News Release

NEW LONDON, Conn. (Feb. 25, 2003) - The Mohegan Wolves (arenafootball2) are joining the many brave souls with warm hearts who will take the Plunge for Special Olympics Connecticut on Sat., March 8. The Penguin Plunge, as it's officially and affectionately called, will take place at Ocean Beach Park in New London. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. The Plunge begins at 12 noon.

This year the Mohegan Wolves, led by Head Coach Mark Stoute, have decided to be among the daring and caring as well, joining the hundreds of others who annually take part in this event. Other Wolves staff members racing Coach Stoute into the frosty ocean waters will be Vice President Angelo Mazzella, Director of Media Relations Marc Lestinsky, and dance team member Nikki Godfrey.

These Mohegan Penguins are now collecting donations from family members, co-workers and friends. Anyone interested in helping the Wolves contribute to the SOCT, Eastern Region cause can send their donations to the Mohegan Wolves office at:

Mohegan Wolves
Attn: Penguin Plunge
311 State Street
New London, CT 06320

All donations need to be submitted to the Wolves by Thursday, March 6.

The Ocean Beach plungers, however, won't be the only frozen faithful diving into local waters that day. Two other Penguin Plunges will be taking place around the state as well, one at Compo Beach in Westport (to benefit SOCT, Southwest Region) and one at Black Rock State Park in Thomaston (to benefit Northwest Region).

All proceeds from the Penguin Plunges go directly to support Special Olympics Connecticut's year-round fitness training and sports competition program for more than 7,300 children and adults with mental retardation throughout the state.
