Manchester Wolves News Release
The Manchester Wolves, New Hampshire's professional arenafootball2 team, are making wishes come true.
The Wolves will join forces with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats and Make-A-Wish NH to make a dream a reality this Sunday for Corey McGuigan, a 16-year old diagnosed with Leukemia, from Farmington, N.H.
For his wish, Corey requested to hold a benefit softball game that would join both the Wolves and Fisher Cats. Corey will coach Team Fisher Cats, while his friend, Jayson Whitehouse (a Farmington native drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers of Major League Baseball, but whose career got cut short after being diagnosed with Burkitt's Lymphoma last year), will coach Team Wolves.
"We're both pleased and honored to be part of something special like this," said Wolves' General Manager Angelo Mazzella. "It means a lot to us to have someone choose the Wolves to be involved in their wish."
"Corey's Softball Game" will take place on July 9 (around 5 p.m.) immediately following the Fisher Cats game against the Portland Sea Dogs at 1 p.m. at MerchantsAuto.com Stadium in Manchester, N.H. In addition, Corey will throw out the first pitch before the Fisher Cats game.
The two teams involved will be made up of a mixture of players from both the Wolves and Fisher Cats along with a handful of local celebrities that include: Mayor Frank Guinta, WMUR Sport's Director Jamie Staton, 2006 Miss NH Emily Hughes, 2006 Miss NH Outstanding Teen Janie Mitchell, and many more. All of the jerseys worn during the softball game will be signed by the players involved and auctioned off after the game to raise money.
Corey would like to personally invite the community to come see the big game as it unfolds. Part of Corey's wish is to give back to the community. He let his wish granters know that he would like the event to raise money with the proceeds to be split between Make-A-Wish and the 500 Boys and Girls Club of Farmington.
Spectators will be admitted free of charge to the softball game, but those interested in attending the Fisher Cats game, as well, must purchase tickets through the Fisher Cats box office.
The Wolves (5-7) will take on East Division Rival Green Bay Bizzard (8-5) this Friday July 7, at 8:30 p.m. in Green Bay, Wisconsin, in a must-win match up for the Wolves in order to keep their playoff hopes alive. Fans can listen to all the action live on WFEA 1370AM.
