The Wolves (5-8) face a formidable foe ahead in Cape Fear, a team that has been unbeatable over the last two months, reeling off seven straight wins. The Wildcats (10-3) are currently ranked No. 2 in the arenafootball2 league rankings, as voted on in the most recent weekly af2 Coaches' Poll. Cape Fear is led on offense by the lethal combination of QB Mike Gluski and OS Matt Burstein. In seven games with the Wildcats since being obtained in a trade, Gluski has thrown for 1,754 yards and 39 touchdowns. Burstein is one of the most dangerous pass catchers in the league, ranking among the af2's best in scoring (1st - 234 points), receiving yards (2nd - 1,349) and receptions (5th - 93). Burstein is also a threat as a kick returner, leading the team in return yards (863) and return touchdowns (2). Cape Fear is led on defense by defensive specialists Quesaun Wigfall (54 tackles, 18 pass breakups) and Antwon Robinson (26.5 tackles, 20 pass breakups).
The Wolves are directed by quarterback Chris Sanders, who is the unquestioned leader of the offense. Last weekend Sanders had a strong game in the team's tough loss at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, throwing for 312 yards and three touchdowns. Sanders also ran for one score against the Pioneers. He currently ranks among the league's elite in passing yards per game (4th - 259.0 ypg) and total offense (4th - 2,937 yards). He's also thrown a team-record 56 touchdown passes, shattering the old mark of 41 set in 2002 by Cable Davis. Rookie receivers Reggie Robinson (53 catches, 682 yards, 12 TDs) and Henry Frazier (51 catches, 763 yards, 12 TDs) are the primary targets for Sanders. Another talented rookie wideout, J.J. McKelvey, should also see some throws come his way. On defense, the Wolves feel better about their chances with veterans Allistair Sebastien (DS), Kelvin Fuller (FB/LB) and Vernon Crawford (OL/DL) leading the charge. All three have missed games at different points of the season but are now healthy and hungry to make a difference.
"Cape Fear is a very good football team with some talented playmakers and a veteran quarterback," Wolves Head Coach Ron Hill said. "It's going to be a heck of a game, but we're back at home and if we play smart, we'll be in good shape."
Tickets are still available for this Friday's big game, so make plans to visit the Verizon for a night of great football and great entertainment. To get in the game, purchase your tickets today at the Verizon Wireless Arena box office or through Ticketmaster at 603-868-7300, at Ticketmaster outlets or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
