LAREDO, Texas – The Laredo Law have been assigned two more players by the arenafootball2 league office. The Law were assigned defensive specialist Roque Vela and wide receiver-defensive back Donte Wells. Vela is a local Laredo resident. Vela, a 5'11 200-pound defensive back, played high school football at Nixon, then he attended Marine Military Academy in Harlingen. He played college football at Hardin-Simmons from 1997-99 where he helped the Cowboys to a post-season berth in the NCAA Division III playoffs in 1999. Was second team All-American Southwest Conference as a free safety in 1999, was honorable mention in 1998. He had 114 tackles and nine interceptions in his career and returned two for touchdowns at Hardin-Simmons. Vela transferred to McMurray University, also in Abilene, for his senior season.

"He looked good in camp and on film when he played at Hardin-Simmons," said Law head coach Scot Maynard. "He doesn't make mistakes and has a good feel for the game. He is an athletic kid who is very physical. Plus being a local guy helps us. He will start at defensive specialist this week."

Wells, a 6-0 200-pound speedster, spent the early part of the 2004 af2 season with the Rio Grande Valley Dorados. In nine games he had 21 receptions for 230 yards and three TDs for the Valley. He had four receptions for 47 yards and a TD in three games against the Law.

Wells played last season in the National Indoor Football League (NIFL) with the Austin Rockers. He split his college career at Corsicana's Navarro College and at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. Wells played in 11 games with Midwestern State as a junior in 2000 and racked up 69 tackles (41 unassisted, 28 assisted). Eight of the tackles were for a loss and Wells also picked up a sack and an interception. The Dallas-Carter High School product played in 9 games his senior year in 2001 at Midwestern State and collected 43 tackles (22 unassisted, 21 assisted). He also had 3 sacks in his senior campaign.
