Manchester Wolves News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. (May 27, 2004) - The Manchester Wolves (arenafootball2) are happy to be home again for the second week in a row as they get set to tackle the Green Bay Blizzard tomorrow night (Friday, May 28) in an intense af2 battle at the Verizon Wireless Arena. The show begins at 5 p.m. with a special pre-game concert courtesy of Spiderbiteradio.com, featuring popular local music acts, Living Syndication and Sean McCarthy. The action inside the arena kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are still available for tomorrow night's game, so make plans to visit the Verizon for a night of great football and great entertainment.
The Wolves (3-4) face a formidable foe in Green Bay, a team that boasts one of the more potent quarterback/receiver combinations in the league. The Blizzard is currently 3-4 on the season after losing a tough home game last weekend at the hands of the Louisville Fire, 59-54. Green Bay is led by its head coach, former Green Bay Packer linebacker Brian Noble. Noble played nine seasons for the Packers at outside linebacker after a standout college career at Arizona State. As a team, the Green Bay offense ranks seventh in the league in scoring, averaging 51.4 points per game. Blizzard QB Chris Greisen has been impressive so far in his rookie af2 season. In six games he's thrown for 1,509 yards and 37 touchdowns. Greisen's main target is WR/LB Randall Lane. Lane has really become a factor is his second af2 season after playing his rookie year with Quad City in 2003. He currently leads the league in receiving yards with 944 and ranks second in scoring with 21 touchdowns. The Blizzard, however, have had difficulties on defense, allowing almost 55 points per game (54.6).
The Wolves are led by quarterback Chris Sanders, who has been in a groove in recent weeks. In the Wolves last three games, Sanders has thrown 17 touchdowns with no interceptions. Veteran WR/DB George Williams has been Sanders' main target this season, catching 56 passes for 723 yards and 14 touchdowns. Rookie WR/DB Reggie Robinson has also been a primary target, ranking second on the squad in receiving with 32 catches for 372 yards and eight touchdowns. With Green Bay's high-powered offense, Manchester will also need a stellar effort out of their defense. The action will be fierce up front as former New England Patriot Vernon Crawford is back for his second game since being activated from a wrist injury. Newcomer Marc Hayes, who played for the Wolves last year in Connecticut, will also see action. His addition gives the team another quality pass rusher who knows the game. The Wolves secondary will need to be sharp as well. Allistair Sebastien (3 INTs, 12 pass breakups) and Marvin Owens (4 INTs, 6 pass breakups) are Manchester's best in the defensive backfield.
"Green Bay is a real strong offensive team that is capable of putting up a lot of points," Wolves Head Coach Rik Richards said. "Our defense will need to stay focused for four quarters. If we get some stops, I think we'll be in good shape."
