Rosemont, Ill.---Abbotsford center Quintin Laing delivered the game's final two goals to lift the Heat to a 3-1 win over the Chicago Wolves on Sunday night at Allstate Arena.
Tim Miller posted the lone goal for the Wolves, while goaltender Eddie Lack earned 22 saves in both teams' third game in a 48-hour stretch.
"We played some decent games this weekend, but not well enough to win any of them," said Wolves head coach Craig MacTavish. "We need to play more consistent to ensure ourselves a win."
The Heat (16-8-1-0) opened the scoring at 8:14 of the first period when center Krys Kolanos fired a wrister from close range that took advantage of the heavy traffic in front of Lack.
The Wolves (9-8-1-3) evened the score at 11:59 of the first when Miller skated up the right side and uncorked a wrister from the near boards that beat Heat goaltender Danny Taylor over the shoulder. Victor Oreskovich and Mark Mancari picked up assists on the play, which marked Miller's third goal in the last five games.
Abbotsford needed just 32 seconds to regain the lead as Laing set up camp in front of the Wolves goal and deflected home defenseman Chris Breen's shot from the point.
The Heat earned an insurance goal 8:55 into the third period moments after going on the power play. Lance Bouma's pass out of the left corner found Laing waiting unattended between the circles and he flicked a shot past Lack (3-5-3).
Taylor (6-3-0) stopped 25 shots in the win.
The Wolves return to action at 7 p.m. Friday at Rockford in an Illinois Lottery Cup contest.
