Manchester Wolves News Release

MANCHESTER, N.H. (June 15, 2004) - Manchester Wolves managing partner and UBS Financial Services Senior Vice President, Steve Schubert, has been named Honorary Chair of the 2005 Granite Gala to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Schubert, a Manchester native, is out to tackle diabetes through this new role with the same vigor as he tackled opponents on the football field as a pro player for the New England Patriots and Chicago Bears in the 1970's.

This 4th annual gala is scheduled for April 16, 2005 at C.R. Sparks Event Center in Bedford. Proceeds from the event, expected to exceed $200,000, will help fund research to find a cure for juvenile (Type 1) diabetes.

"I'm looking forward to this new challenge ahead in helping the JDRF," Schubert said. "I'm a competitor and when there's something to fight for, I want to win that fight. That's why I'm so ready to tackle this project. Trust me when I say I'm going to be on an all-out blitz to find folks from the corporate community who are willing to step up and stand beside me in this, people who want to see juvenile diabetes defeated as much as I do."

Schubert realizes he can't win this one of his own, and plans to start the recruitment process close to home, by first enlisting his partners at UBS and the Manchester Wolves.

Says JDRF NH Board President, Jeff Cook of BAE SYSTEMS, "We are very excited that Steve has accepted this position and look forward to working with him on this important event. Corporate partnerships like this help us to increase awareness of our mission as well as raise critical research dollars. Steve and his network of business associates bring so much to the table that will help further our work. We are most grateful."

The organization's mission is constant: to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. JDRF, the leading charitable funder and advocate of juvenile (type 1) diabetes research worldwide, was founded in 1970 by the parents of children with juvenile diabetes - a disease which strikes children and young adults suddenly, makes them insulin-dependent, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications. Since inception, JDRF has provided more than $680 million in direct funding to diabetes research. More than 80 percent of JDRF expenditures directly support research and research-related education.
