June 15, 2004 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release

CHICAGO - Albany offensive specialist TONY LOCKE, Tennessee Valley wide receiver/linebacker TRAVIS MCALPINE and Wichita offensive/defensive lineman HENRY BRYANT have been named the Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player, U.S. Army Ironman and ADT Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for Week 11 of the 2004 season.

BABY RUTH REAL DEAL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Locke (5-11, 190, Ohio State), in his second season, once again led the Conquest in receiving while leading the Conquest to a 66-54 victory over the Arkansas Twisters. Locke totaled 174 receiving yards and four touchdowns on six catches. All of Locke's scores came in the first half, with his final score being a back breaker for the Twisters. With Albany up by only seven points and just seconds remaining in the first half, the Conquest lined up for one last play of the half from their own five-yard line. Quarterback D. Bryant dropped back and found Tony Locke on a 45-yard touchdown to give Albany a two-possession lead and put them in control of the game. Locke's performance is typical of the numbers he has put up this season as he leads the Conquest in receiving with 50 catches for 1030 yards and 25 touchdowns. The former Buckeye now leads the league in scoring with 29 total touchdowns. This is the first weekly accolade for Locke and the first Conquest player to be honored since Ryan Vena won this same award in Week 15 of last season.

U.S. ARMY IRONMAN OF THE WEEK

McAlpine (6-2, 220, Saginaw Valley State), in his rookie season, had a solid all around game to help the Tennessee Valley Vipers defeat the Macon Knights 54-38. The Vipers found themselves down by six at halftime, but the deficit could have been greater had it not been for the efforts of McAlpine. On the last play of the second half McAlpine caught a four-yard touchdown pass to get the Vipers within eight points at 26-18. McAlpine then ran in the two point conversion to make the score 26-20 at halftime. McAlpine finished with seven catches for 52 yards and one touchdown. On defense McAlpine led the Vipers in tackles with 5.5 (5UA-1A) and passes defended with three. He finished with an interception at the end of the game, which added an exclamation point to the Vipers victory. This is the first league award for McAlpine. The last Viper to win a weekly accolade was Jerrian James who won this same award in Week 1 of this season.

ADT DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Bryant (6-1, 240, Kansas State), in his rookie season, helped the Wichita Stealth defeat the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz 70-35 to move the Stealth into a tie for first place in the Southwest Division. Bryant recorded four sacks, a single game season high, and a forced fumble to slow down the high scoring Yard Dawgz offense that entered the game as the top offense in the league, averaging 61.6 points a game. The 35 points the Stealth allowed is a season low for Oklahoma City. The big play for Bryant came in the second quarter. On third and ten at their own seven-yard line Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz quarterback Craig Strickland dropped back in his own endzone. Bryant got to Strickland, causing a fumble which was recovered by teammate Markevius Woods for a touchdown. The score put the Stealth up 35-14, a lead they would go on to extend. Bryant's four sacks is a team record. This is the first weekly award for Bryant, and the second on the season for the Stealth. Former quarterback Aaron Sparrow won the Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Week accolade in Week 4 of this season.
