Janesville Jets News Release
ANCHORAGE, AK - The Jets began a new Alaskan rivalry this past weekend against the newest addition to the NAHL, the Anchorage Wolverines. The Jets' introduction to the Wolverines did not go as planned, as the home team won comfortably in both contests to secure a weekend sweep.
The road blues continued for Janesville (3-10-0-1), who were already coming out of a weekend where the Minnesota Wilderness swept them. The Wolverines (9-4-1-0) moved into third place in the Midwest Division standings with the two wins.
Friday, 10/29: L, 2-6
Janesville struck first barely one minute in on a shot from Grayden Daul, which Anchorage responded to five minutes later. Daul, the only Jet with points in the game, recorded the final goal for Janesville later on in the period. Robby Newton assisted on both goals, which were numbers three and four on the year for Daul.
Though the Jets outshot the Wolverines 26 to 19, Anchorage controlled the game from there on out, scoring three goals in the second period and adding one more in the third to win 6-2. Owen Millward came on in the second period to relieve starter Michael D'Orazio. The inaugural game between the two ended with some fireworks in the third period after a kerfuffle amongst almost all ten skaters broke out just two minutes into the period. Eleven penalties were handed out, including four fighting majors and three game misconducts.
Saturday, 10/30: L, 3-7
Looking for a shift in momentum, the Jets went with Ryan Whittaker in net to start Saturday's game in his first career NAHL start. The goaltending switch-up did not pan out, as the Wolverines put up three goals right out of the gate. The Jets did have some life in the second; the Grayden Daul show continued with his third goal of the weekend, followed up with a score from his fellow defenseman Will Troutwine. Janesville added one more in the third period on a slick snipe from rookie Cy LeClerc, his eighth of the 2021-22 campaign. Whittaker played the full 60 minutes, minus leaving to empty the net, and made 21 saves on 27 shots in his NAHL debut.
With the sweep, the Jets now find themselves on a four-game skid going into a challenging three-game series against the division-leading Fairbanks Ice Dogs, where the grueling five-week road trip will conclude before a much-needed stand at home. The three-game set starts on Thursday night.
