Wizards sign Maurice Baker

Bismarck, ND (October 27, 2005) - The Dakota Wizards signed Maurice "Mo" Baker today, pending league approval. Per club policy, terms of the contract were not released.
Baker was a fan favorite among Wizards fans. The 6'2", 200 pound point guard played for the Wizards in 34 games last season. He is an explosive player who looks to get his teammates involved before scoring himself. He averaged 17.4 points on 50% shooting last season. He also put up averages of 5.4 rebounds, 7 assists, and 1.9 steals per game.
"Mo brings back experience and leadership that we are looking for on and off the court. He is very versatile as he can play the 1 or the 2. There will be mismatches with him on the court because of him being a big strong point guard and he can also knock down the perimeter shot. We are looking for Mo to push the ball in our transition and get everybody else easy shots," assistant coach Rob Spon said. Assistant coach Bryant Notree added, "Mo is a very exciting player with tremendous athleticism. He is also very intelligent out on the floor, which makes him a great point guard. With his energy and excitement to go along with his athletic skills, he is an easy candidate for another NBA call up."
Mo will bring some NBA experience to the Wizards. Toward the end of last season, the Los Angeles Clippers signed Maurice to a 10-day NBA contract. The following month, he was brought up by the Portland Trail Blazers. Despite being called up twice, Mo was still selected as a member of the All-CBA First Team.
Baker graduated from the Oklahoma State University, where he played under coaching legend Eddie Sutton. He earned a spot on the All-Big 12 Honorable Mention team during his senior season (2001-02) there. That year he averaged 13.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.3 assists.
