Wizards Sign Kasib Powell
November 7, 2005 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1)
Dakota Wizards News Release
Bismarck, ND (November 7, 2005) - The Dakota Wizards signed Kasib Powell today, pending league approval. Per club policy, terms of the contract were not released.
Kasib is a 6'7", 220-pound small forward/shooting guard who can score at will as well as control the boards. Last season he played in both the CBA and USBL. He played in 27 games with the Great Lakes Storm in the CBA. During that span, he averaged 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists per game, which led to his selection in the CBA All-Star Game. After the CBA season, he joined the New Jersey Flyers in the USBL, where he put up averages of 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists per game.
"Kasib is one of those players who doesn't have a true position because he can play the one, two, or three. He plays great defense, as he is very long and athletic. He is the missing piece to our puzzle because the small forward position is what I consider a lost art in the CBA and Kasib fits that description," assistant coach Bryant Notree said. Head coach Dave Bliss added, "We're thrilled to have Kasib Powell as part of our basketball team. As people know, Kasib led the Great Lakes Storm to the playoffs last season and we are excited about him doing the same great things for us this year."
Powell was just released by the Chicago Bulls last week. He was the last player cut prior to the regular season. He also was a member of their summer league team and participated in their mini-camp this summer.
Baker graduated from Texas Tech University, where he played under the tutelage of coaching legend Bobby Knight. He earned a spot on the All-Big 12 Honorable Mention team during both his junior and senior seasons (2001-02 & 2002-03) there. His senior year, he lead the Red Raiders to the NIT semifinals where they lost to the eventual champions, St. John's, at Madison Square Garden. He averaged 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists his senior season.
Dakota Wizards season tickets and mini-plans are currently on sale. Please contact the Wizards office at (701) 258-2255 or visit their website at www.dakotawizards.com for more details. The regular season gets underway with a game November 19th at Sioux Falls. Their home opener is Friday, November 25th against the Idaho Stampede.
