Dakota Wizards News Release

Bismarck, ND (February 20, 2006) - The Dakota Wizards signed Rashad Phillips, pending league approval. Per club policy, terms of the contract were not released.

Phillips is a lightning-quick 5'10" guard who will provide the Wizards with some much needed offensive punch. He can score at will whether it's with a jumper or driving by his defender. When he played his college ball, he had the nickname "Baby Iverson".

Rashad grew up in Detroit and attended the University of Detroit. There he averaged double figures in points all four seasons. His junior and senior seasons he lead the MCC with 23 and 22.3 points respectively. He became just the third player to ever accomplish this feat. He also was the conference's leading free throw shooter his senior season, connecting on a 92% clip. In additional to all this, he won the Francis Pomeroy Naismith Award, which goes to the top senior basketball player in the country under six feet.

Phillips ended his career at the University of Detroit with some very impressive numbers. He is the school's all-time leading scorer with 2,319 points. He is also first in school history in three point field goals made (348) and free throws made (541). He ranks second in school history in steals (190), free throw percentage (87.5%). Rashad holds the single-season school record for points (785), three point field goals (136), and free throw percentage (92%).

After finishing up his collegiate career, Phillips has played in a variety of different leagues. He has experience in the NBDL (Mobile Revelers), Italy, France, Turkey, and Greece. Overseas, he has averaged anywhere from 21.2 ppg to 24.6 ppg. He most recently played with Makendonikos Kozani in Greece.

The Wizards return home on tonight when they host the Yakama Sun Kings. They will also host the Sun Kings at Wednesday night. Tip off for both games is scheduled for 7:05. Tickets are still available for all four of the Wizards' remaining home games. Please contact the Wizards office at (701) 258-2255 or visit their website at www.dakotawizards.com for more details.
