Wizards Mascot Dunkie to be named as Honorary Christmas Time Chairperson for The Salvation Army

BISMARCK, ND, November 14, 2007 - The NBA Development League Champion Dakota Wizards announced today that they have teamed up The Salvation Army to help tip off the Red Kettle Campaign as a part of Wizards Championship weekend. On November 24th. Wizards mascot Dunkie, who was named Honorary Christmas Time Chairperson for The Salvation Army will ring the first bell to tip off the season of giving.

"We are excited to team up with The Salvation Army," said Wizards General Manager Tom Wagganer. "it's an honor to tip off our season with this great cause. I know Dunkie is honored and looking forward to ringing the red kettle bell to help local families in the area."

Last year The Salvation Army raised $130,000 in kettle donations and hopes to top that number this year. With the theme of the season being "Making Change Happen" fits in great with the NBA slogan for this season of "Where amazing Happens".

The event starts at 6 p.m. when doors open for the second game of the season with uniformed bell ringers ready to greet the fans. At halftime The Salvation Army staff along with Dunkie and General Manager Tom Wagganer will officially tip-off the program. This event will feature some of the individuals who have turned negative circumstances into great successes through the help of The Salvation Army. Salvation Army miniature bells, red bracelets and yardsticks will also be given out throughout the evening.

"The money we raise at Christmas enables us to help those in need here in the Bismarck/Mandan community throughout the year," explained Major Dale Hale, Bismarck/Mandan Corps Officer. "We couldn't do the work we do without the support of the community, and we really appreciate all the Wizards do for North Dakota as a whole."
