BISMARCK, N.D.: Behind Wizards forward Perrin Johnson's enthusiasm off the bench, the Dakota Wizards sent out 2007 with a win over Central Division rival Iowa Energy 105-94. Johnson, who finished with 14 exciting points sparked the Wizards to their first victory over the Energy this season and helped the 3,552 fans at the Bismarck Civic Center ring in the New Year in style
"It's a big win at home", said Wizards head coach Duane Ticknor. "Perrin Johnson really got the crowd and our guys fired up in the first half, he's got a lot of energy.
Dakota, now 9-5 on the season were led in scoring off the bench by guard Blake Ahearn with 23 points while dishing out 5 assists. Forward Carlos Powell, playing on a sore right ankle after missing the fourth quarter on Saturday vs. Colorado, looked good as new as he finished the evening off with 20 points and grabbing nine rebounds.
The Energy fall to 9-8 on the season and a back 1.5 games behind the Wizards in the Central Division. NBA assigned forward for the Chicago Bulls Demetris Nichols led all scores with 25 point in the loss, while guard Dwayne Mitchell nailed 18 points on the night.
The Wizards head east as they face the LA Defenders on Friday Jan 4th and Bakersfield Jam on the next night Jan 5th. Iowa heads to another Central Division team the Sioux Falls Skyforce on Jan. 4th.
