Sporting Kansas City News Release
Bridgeview, IL (Tuesday, July 4, 2006) - Despite once again outshooting their opponents, the Kansas City Wizards fell 1-0 at the hands of the Chicago Fire. The loss dropped the Wizards to 6-8-2 on the season, tying them with Chicago for third place in the Eastern Conference as the Fire (5-5-5) now matches Kansas City with 20 points on the season.
Andy Herron put Chicago on the board with a bicycle kick to the far post that Wizards goalkeeper Will Hesmer had no chance of reaching. The Fire's Chris Armas played the ball into the penalty box from the left flank for Herron. Holding off his defender, and with Hesmer guarding the near post shot, Herron flicked the ball into the air and hit a right-footed shot as he went head over heals for what proved to be a 1-0 Chicago win in the 49th minute.
The Wizards outshot the Fire 12-11 in the match, including a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal.
