PREVIOUS GAME - Winterhawks 4 vs. Thunderbirds 3: In a night in which the Winterhawks dominated their offensive zone play, they beat the Thunderbirds 4-3 at Veterans Memorial Coliseum. It marked the organization's second win of the year against Seattle.

The first period lived up to the I-5 Rivalry hype. The Winterhawks outshot Seattle 22 to 6 in the period, and took only seven and a half minutes to find their first goal of the night. Cody Glass broke out of the zone with Reece Newkirk and Newkirk scored shorthanded on a hard pass-off-pad to make it a 1-0 game.

Seattle responded 20 seconds later on the power play. Zack Andrusiak netted his first of the night to tie the game at one. In the final minute of the period, Jaydon Dureau forced in a Newkirk wrap around chance to give Portland a 2-1 lead heading into the locker room.

The Winterhawks began the second period on the power play and needed only 28 seconds to find the back of the net. Cody Glass one-timed in his ninth of the season to extend the Hawks lead to 3-1. Glass has now recorded a point in his last 11 games.

Andrusiak cut the lead in half a few minutes later on an in-tight play at the top of Farkas' crease. Before the second period ended, Mason Mannek collected a puck off the end wall and wristed it home for the team's fourth of the night, giving the Hawks a 4-2 lead into the intermission.

In the third, Portland controlled play in their offensive end, but Liam Hughes turned aside all 13 shots in the final 20 minutes, including two impressive denials to keep the game within reach. With an extra attacker, Andrusiak scored his hat trick goal by redirecting it five hole. The Hawks buckled down and won 4-3 at home for their 14th win of the season.

TODAY'S OPPONENT:

Everett has played well as of late and came into the weekend ranked ninth in the CHL standings. Portland and Everett will have some attention seeing they are the only game in the WHL tonight.

Last night, Everett and Kelowna battled until the final minutes. Captain Connor Dewar was the Silvertips savior. He scored both Everett goals in the 2-1 win, including the game winner with under a minute to play. Dewar became the fifth player in the WHL to reach the 20 goal plateau this season. The Silvertips out-shot the Rockets 42 to 18 on Saturday night.

In similar fashion, the Hawks had offensive momentum throughout their night against Seattle, out-shooting the Thunderbirds 44 to 18. Four different players scored for Portland in their Saturday night win and the Winterhawks are looking to close the seven point gap that separates them and Everett in the standings.

In the last head-to-head meeting the Hawks scored five times on 29 shots. It was the first time 'Tips netminder Dustin Wolf allowed four goals all season. Because Everett has played well defensively, the Hawks need to jump out to a strong start at home against their Rival. Everett is a perfect 15-0-0-0 when scoring first this season, the only remaining team in the WHL to have an unblemished record when scoring first.

Joachim Blichfeld leads the way with nine points against the Silvertips, representing five of the 14 goals scored against Everett this year. Reece Newkirk (2) is the only other Hawk player with multiple goals against the Silvertips. Connor Dewar has five points in five games against the Hawks.

Two of Everett's seven losses have come at the hands of Portland. Sunday night will be the sixth meeting between the two teams this year, and a rematch is already scheduled in Everett on Wednesday evening. Though it's only November, these games are guaranteed to effect playoff seeding in March.

Portland is at on home Sunday, November 25th at Veterans Memorial Coliseum against the Everett Silvertips. Individual tickets are now on sale. Be sure to visit winterhawks.com/tickets for full details on pricing and availability.
