Winterhawks Fall 3-2 in Game 5 against Everett Saturday

The Portland Winterhawks fell 3-2 to the Everett Silvertips in Game 5 of their first round playoff series Saturday at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in front of 7,093 fans.

The Hawks lead the series 3-2, with Game 6 Monday night in Everett at 7:05 p.m.

Everett got on the board first when Josh Winquist scored his sixth of the series to make it 1-0 at the 10:19 mark of the first, then took a 2-0 lead on a goal by Logan Aasman at the 13:41 mark.

The Silvertips extended the lead to 3-0 with a goal from Reid Petryk at the 13:26 mark of the second, the lone goal of the period.

Portland got on the board with a power play goal from Brendan Leipsic at the 5:59 mark of the third to cut the deficit to 3-1. They got within one late in the frame when Derrick Pouliot scored a power play goal at the 18:35 mark to make it 3-2. The Hawks rallied furiously in an attempt to get the equalizer, but the Silvertips withstood the pressure to finish with the win.

Portland outshot Everett 45-18 on the night and were 2-5 on the power play and a perfect 2-2 on the penalty kill.
