Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Winston-Salem Dash suffered a narrow 2-0 loss to the Brooklyn Cyclones.
Brooklyn got on the board first on Friday night, in the bottom of the second inning. Stanley Consuegra tripled to straight away center field with one out, then Jose Peroza drove him home with a two-strike double.
The Cyclones added another run in the third inning. Juan Loyo worked a leadoff walk, then advanced to second on a wild pitch from starter Karan Patel. After Matt Rudick drew a walk as well, a slow-moving groundout allowed Loyo and Rudick to advance 90 feet each. One more walk loaded the bases, then Nic Gaddis bounced into an RBI groundout to give Brooklyn a 2-0 lead.
Neither side got much going in the fourth inning, but the Dash had a quality chance to score in the top of the fifth. Jason Matthews got hit by a pitch with one out, then Caberea Weaver singled with Matthews stopping at second base. Next, Duke Ellis reached first on catcher's interference to load the bases for Winston-Salem. That prompted the Cyclones to turn to their bullpen, as they replaced Keyshawn Askew with David Griffin. The right-handed Griffin got out of the jam with a strikeout and a groundout to preserve the 2-0 Brooklyn lead.
Dash pitching certainly kept this game close throughout. Patel, who was making his first start since April, allowed just two runs in 2.1 innings. Cooper Bradford followed Patel, and Bradford didn't allow a hit or a run across 2.1 frames as well. Luis Moncada was next up, and he was also effective. Moncada worked through 3.1 innings without allowing a run, but the Dash offense was held in check as Brooklyn bagged a 2-0 victory. Griffin was the winner for the Cyclones with Dylan Hall earning a save, and Patel taking the loss for the Dash.
