Winnipeg Sea Bears Kick off Philippine Independence Day Celebrations with Filipino Performers at Outdoor Party

WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Sea Bears announced Friday that local hip-hop and R&B brand REFRESH will provide live entertainment at the next "We Got Next" pregame party presented by Hargrave Street Market, Academy Hospitality and the Downtown Winnipeg Biz. The group brings a wide range of recording and performing experience locally and across the country. The festivities will begin at 4:30 p.m. at True North Square ahead of the Sea Bears' next home game June 12 against the Edmonton Stingers. The collaboration represents one of many with Filipino artists as part of unique programming to celebrate Philippine Independence Day, which falls on the same day as the game.

Admission to all "We Got Next" parties is free for guests to enjoy before heading over to Canada Life Centre for the game.

Brakada

The local rap duo dust off the mics for one day only! Lahcing & Mikal (Mitch & Mike Francisco) are long-time veterans of the Winnipeg hip-hop scene; having performed numerous shows and opened for artists such as Method Man & Redman, Naughty By Nature and DJ Jazzy Jeff. These West End brothers will have your heads nodding to their tight rhymes and strong beats. Their drive to succeed in life stems from a need to do justice to the effort and sacrifices their first-generation Filipino mother made to raise them in Canada. Brakada continue to inspire the youth to this day with their heavy involvement in the Manitoba basketball community.

Reynalyne Gacilan

Born and raised in Winnipeg, MB, Canada, Reynalyne has always had a passion for music. She began singing at a young age and quickly gained attention for her powerful and raw vocals. Over the years, she has honed her skills and developed a unique sound that sets her apart from other artists. Currently, Reynalyne is working on an EP that is set to be released this year. She has poured her heart and soul into this project, and fans can expect to hear a more personal side of her music. With her raw talent and authentic approach to songwriting, Reynalyne is sure to make a lasting impact on the music industry for years to come.

DJ D-Luxx

DJ D-Luxx (Dexter Pineda) first touched turntables in 1993 and it's been a memorable musical journey ever since. D-Luxx co-founded the legendary feel-good parties Groove Theory and Bump & Grind(with DJ DLO and Ryan Reyes) which led to successful weekly residencies at former establishments The Academy, Opera Ultralounge and Maw's Garage/Prohibition. D-Luxx is well-known for his deep R&B and Hip Hop knowledge and his undeniable dancehall sets.

DJ Ryan Reyes

Some of Ryan's fondest early musical memories involve being exposed to his late uncle Tony's DJ equipment, which his cousins Rick & Gina would play the latest early 90's Filipino debutante party hits on. Years later he became involved in Winnipeg's nightlife industry as a promoter and event consultant. Currently you can find him dj'ing at his current 90's & 00's hip hop party HOLLA!, new music & artist showcases with REFRESH and occasional private functions and guest appearances.
