Joliet Slammers News Release
Austin Wobrock led off the 4th inning for the Freedom with a double, then was brought home via a single from Caleb Lopes giving the Freedom a 1-0 lead. Lopes was caught trying to steal 2nd base for the first out, then Matt Quintana retired the next 2 batters he faced.
The bats got rolling in the 5th inning for the Slammers. Peyton Isaacson launched his 1st homerun of the season off the top of a school bus out there on Power Alley Rd. tying the game at 1. Tyler Coolbaugh followed Isaacson with a walk, Chaz Meadows roped a single over the shortstop, then Dash Winningham brought them both home with a single giving the Slammers a 3-1 lead.
Jared Morello led off the 7th inning with a walk, London Lindley was hit by pitch, Chaz Meadows moved those guys into scoring position with a beautiful sac bunt. With 1 out, Dash Winningham came through again with another huge 2-run single giving the Slammers a 5-1 lead.
Matt Quintana was absolutely dealing for the Slammers today. One night after Florence racked up 15 hits, Quintana held them to just 4 and held their offense in check through 7 innings. He only gave up the 1 run in the 4th inning, struck out 5, and only walked 1. Quintana would get the win in today's game.
Zak Spivy didn't give the Freedom the outing he was hoping. He only lasted 4.1 innings and gave up 2 runs on 4 hits. Spivy also issued more walks (3) than strikeouts (2). He would be the losing pitcher in today's game.
The Slammers even this series up and improve their record to 14-27 with the win. Florence has their 7-game winning streak snapped and fall to 27-13 with the loss. The rubber match of this 3-game series will be Thursday, June 27th with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The Slammers will be looking to win their first series at home this season.
Today's Merchants and Manufacturer's Bank Player of the Game is:Dash Winningham (2-4, 3 RBI).
