June 6, 2011 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers News Release
During the Lunkers four-game winning streak, they put up a combined 37 runs against their opponents.
But Monday night, they could only put up three runs against the St. Cloud River Bats who handed the Lunkers a 6-3 loss at Mills Field.
Jon Richard had a strong pitching performance for the River Bats. The left-handed sophomore out of Xavier University went seven innings, giving up two runs on five hits and striking out six. He silenced the Lunker bats that had been hot for four straight games.
On the other side, the Lunkers struggled, especially in the early going. Lunkers starter Derek Hansen walked four straight batters in the first, and would only pitch one inning as he passed the 30 pitch limit for one inning.
John McLeod, in his first game in the Lunker uniform, came on and pitched four innings. He would give up three runs in the third to St. Cloud who would take a 5-1 lead at the time.
The Lunkers would answer back with one run in the Bottom of the 4th inning, as Steven Brault singled in Ryan Abrahamson to make the score 5-2.
Casey Roche came in for the Lunkers and gave up one run through four innings pitched. Roche, also making his Lunker debut, struck out five coming out of the bullpen.
The Lunkers would add one in the Bottom of the 9th, but it was not enough as St. Cloud took the first of a three games series with the Lunkers.
Brainerd Lakes is back in action tomorrow night as Charlie Henderson takes the hill for the Lunkers. First pitch is at 7:05pm.
