Rochester Honkers News Release
(Rochester, MN) - It was an old fashion pitching duel Monday night, when the Rochester Honkers traveled all the way up to Thunder Bay, Ontario, to match up against the Border Cats. The Honkers received an excellent pitching performance from Alex Alemann (So, St. Louis University), who pitched eight innings, allowing only two hits, and one run, while walking one and striking out eight.
Although the Honkers only got two hits, they stranded nine runners on base, seeing eight walks and one batter hit by the pitch during the game.
Alemann was making his second start of the season, after falling in the season opener against Mankato. With the loss, Alex moves to 0-2 on the season, with an ERA of 2.08. His counterpart on the night was Tyler Mack, who went six innings, allowing just one hit and striking out eight Honker batters. It was Mack's first appearance of the season, so he is now 1-0.
Matt Beyer (Jr, UW-Whitewater), one of the league leaders in stolen bases was caught for the first time of the season, getting thrown out twice tonight.
The two teams will be back at it again tomorrow night, for the second game of the three game set in Thunder Bay. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:05 central time. Bryce Rippentrop (So, Dakota County Tech) will be on the mound for Rochester. The Honkers will return home on Thursday, June 9, when they take on the Duluth Huskies at Mayo Field, game time is 7:05.
