FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Fairbanks Ice Dogs scored threegoals over the final eight minutes and 20 seconds of regulation Friday to handthe Wenatchee Wild their first loss of the season, 5-3.
The Wild got off to a strong start Friday, owning a 1-0 lead98 seconds into the first period on BlakeRoubos' (Niagara Falls, Ontario) second goal of the season. The goal wasset up thanks to a strong forecheck that caused a Fairbanks turnover. Rouboswas in position to score on a rebound from NicholasKuchera (Eagan, Minn.) and DavidPowlowski (Rochester, N.Y.).
Fairbanks evened the score near the midpoint of the firstframe when Devin Loe scored on a wrist shot from the left wing during anodd-man rush into the Wenatchee zone.
The Ice Dogs also scored near the midpoint of the secondperiod to take a 2-1 lead. This time, Ryan McNeely notched the goal on anassist from Doug Rose when he lit the light on a short breakaway.
Wenatchee responded with a pair of goals in the third periodto reclaim the lead, 3-2. Max McHugh(Edgewood, Wash.) scored from a sharp angle at the bottom of the near faceoffcircle during a man-advantage for the Wild's goal of the night. Jacob Barber (Dardenne Prairie, Mo.)and Chris Diver (Wilmington, Del.)assisted. Noah Nelson (Oconomowoc,Wis.) gave the Wild the lead a little over a minute later on assists fromRoubos and Powlowski.
With the Wild seemingly in control, the Ice Dogs managed onto score three goals down the stretch to win the West Division contest, 5-3.Loe notched his second marker of the game with 7:40 remaining in regulation totie the contest, 3-3. Doug Rose and Jayson Angus assisted.
Brett Gervais recorded the game-winning goal with 2:39 leftin the third period during a Fairbanks power play. Nick Hinz and Jakob Romoassisted. Garret Clemment then tacked on an empty-netter with 38 seconds leftto play.
Both teams were 1-for-6 on the power play. Wenatchee's Robert Nichols (Dallas, Texas) made 25saves on 29 shots. Fairbanks netminder Steve Perry made 21 saves on 24 shots.
Loe led Fairbanks with two goals while Rose notched twoassists. Powlowski recorded two assists for the Wild.
