Kalamazoo buries six in four goal victory

October 6, 2012 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings News Release

Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings had five players with multi-point performances, including Christian George, who had three, as they skated to a 6-2 victory over the Michigan Warriors on Saturday at the Borgess Health Rink inside Wings West.

Kalamazoo had the first period that they were looking for against the Warriors, as they started their scoring attack just 3:11 into the first period. Kyle Gattelaro was open in the slot and got a pass from Robbie Payne, which Gattelaro buried for his second goal of the season.

The Warriors responded quickly, however, as it only took a minute and 28 seconds for them to draw even. Connor Lyons beat Kalamazoo starting goalie, Nick Stuart, for his first of the season to make the game tied at one apiece.

The rest of the period belonged to Kalamazoo, as they made it 2-1 at the 8:11 mark on the first goal of the season by George. George walked the puck in from a sharp angle, and beat Michigan goalie, Trevor Gorsuch, along the far side.

Just over three minutes later, Kalamazoo's Jacob McDowell would add to the Jr. K-Wings lead on a high-slot one-timer that was fed to him by George. George, who had a goal and an assist in the opening frame, had only one point in the first eight games entering today.

Kalamazoo outshot the Warriors by a total of 19-9 during the first period.

The Jr. K-Wings controlled the second period as much as they did the first, as they were able to out shoot the Warriors by a count of 10-1. One of those shots found the back of the net, as it was Trevor Boyd scoring his second of the season on a rebound opportunity just outside the goal crease.

4:12 into the final period, the Warriors looked to claw their way back into the contest on the back of a goal by Corey Schueneman (1st). His shot beat Stuart and brought his team to within two goals.

Just over five minutes later, Kalamazoo's Taylor Burden re-established the three-goal lead for Kalamazoo, when he buried his third of the season on a shot from the slot area.

Capping off the Kalamazoo scoring attack was Luc Boby, who netted his eighth of the season at the 11:59 mark of the third period, securing Kalamazoo's first home ice win of 2012-13.

The Jr. K-Wings will hit the ice again on Sunday, October 7th at 2:00 p.m. at the Borgess Health Rink inside Wings West against the Michigan Warriors.
