Amarillo Bulls News Release
WICHITA FALLS TX - The Amarillo Bulls offense was on display on the road tonight (Friday) at Kay Yeager Coliseum in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Clint Carlisle and Hampus Gustafsson each scored twice to power the Bulls past the Wichita Falls Wildcats 8-1. It was the Bulls third win in a row, and it moved them into sole possession of third place in the South Division.
Bulls Head Coach Dennis Williams said it was a good team effort.
"I thought we played pretty good defensively, we didn't give up a lot of shots," said Williams after the game. "We were trying really hard to get the shutout for Collin who I thought played extremely well and made some good saves. The guys were great on the bench and the energy level was high."
What a start to the game for the Amarillo Bulls as for the second straight contest, the Bulls responded with a quick goal in the first two minutes and then built on the momentum from there. Clint Carlisle opened the scoring by converting a pass from Tyler Deresky at the 1:19 mark.
Later in the stanza, Matt Sieckhaus and Omar Mullan got into the scoring act. Sieckhaus banked a shot off the side of goaltender Evan Cowley and into the net. John Rey and Conor O'Neil earned assists on the goal. Just over two minutes later, Mullan made up for a miss earlier in the period when he scored from Hampus Gustafsson. The Bulls outshot the Wildcats 14-6.
In the second period, Gustafsson netted his first in the NAHL when his shot beat Cowley through the legs. Mike Davis added an assist on the goal. Each team had nine shots on net. The Wildcats had some good scoring opportunities but were denied by goaltender Delia.
The third period was all Bulls as they posted four more goals including three in a row. Clint Carlisle scored on the power play from Geoff Fortman and TJ Sherman. Four minutes later, TJ Sarcona's shot was deflected into the net. Ryan Cole added an assist on the play. Gustafsson tallied his second of the game from Conor O'Neil.
Wichita Falls ended the shutout string of goaltender Collin Delia by scoring on a deflection with less than three minutes remaining in the game. The Bulls rounded out the scoring when Brady Ferguson got his first in the NAHL from Clint Carlisle and Tyler Deresky.
"Anytime you can score eight goals in this building and limit them to just one, we will take it," Williams commented. "But tomorrow we have to be prepared for an even more tenacious Wichita Falls team. Coach (Paul) Baxter will have his team ready to go."
The Amarillo Bulls outshot the Wichita Falls Wildcats 39-23 including 16-9 in the third period. There were five total power plays with the Bulls going 1 for 1, while the Wildcats were 0 for 4.
These same two South Division rivals will conclude their two-game set tomorrow (Saturday) night at 7:15 pm at Kay Yeager Coliseum. Fans can tune into the action live on ESPN1440 and www.amarillobulls.com beginning with pre-game coverage at 6:55 pm with Denis J. Puska.
