
Wings Win in Walk off Fashion; Take Series

HARLINGEN - The Rio Grande Valley (32-30) defeated the Fort Worth Cats in walk off fashion off the bat of Albert Carpen giving the wings a 7-6 win Sunday night at Harlingen Field.
Albert Carpen led off the bottom of the first inning with a double which bounced off the glove of outfielder Cameron Monger. Carpen scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Cody Collins which gave RGV an early 1-0 lead.
Josh Band led off the third inning for the Cats with a base hit; Doug Freeman then came in and got aboard on an error by Thomas Shull.
That error would prove costly as Band would later score on an RBI single by Ryan Miller tieing the game at one.
Later in the inning, Freeman came in to score as David Bergin hit a base hit into right field making it 2-1 Cats.
In the bottom of the third inning RGV would return the favor as Eduardo Sosa led off with a single. Carpen came up to the plate and belted a double into right field as Sosa came home to score tieing the game at two.
Garcia and Carpen later scored on an RBI single by Ramirez extending the Wings lead 4-2. Shull then hit a sacrifice fly which scored Ramirez making it 5-2.
Cats stormed back with a 4 run 4 hit inning led by back to back singles from Miller and Chris Ellison. David Bergin then belted a base clearing double to tie the game at five.
Following a Daniel Meeley single, Bergin advanced to third base, then scored on a Sobolewski sacrifice fly to regain the lead 6-5.
RGV answered back in the bottom of the fifth. Albert Carpen scored on an error by Sobolewski allowing the Wings to tie the game at 6-6.
Kieran Bradford drew a leadoff walk; Jake Mendiola then pinch ran for Bradford, two batters later with the bases loaded Albert Carpen scored Mendiola from third as the Wings did it again in walk off fashion.
The WhiteWings won the series against the Fort Worth Cats for the first time this season. The Wings hit the road for a twelve game road trip and return August 11th to face the Edinburg Roadrunners.
