
Wings Win Home Opener

Your Aberdeen Wings improved to 5-2-0-0 with a 6-2 home opener win vs in state rival Brookings Friday night at the Odde. Getting things started for the Wings was Jonathan Bendorf getting his 3rd of the season with a power play goal with assists going to Sicoly & Strada. Following that was Brad Belisle scoring his 2nd of the season unassisted. Brookings would get one back but Joe Strada would answer with his first of the night and 2nd of the season with Salpeter assisting. The First period would come to an end with a Wings lead of 3-1. The 2nd would be more of the same for the Wings, this time Thomas Rocco would get a short handed unassisted goal to put the Wings up 4-1. Joe Strada would follow with his 2nd of the night to make it a 4 goal lead for the Wings. Assisting were Sicoly & Beatty. Brookings would once again respond and get a goal closer to close out the 2nd period with a 5-2 score. The 3rd would be capped off by a Nic Sicoly Power Play goal sealing the deal for the Wings. Assisting were Strada and Tim Makowski. Matt Vernon was great in net stopping 22 of the 24 shots he faced. a crowd of over 1,500 people were on hand for the home opener at the Odde. The Wings have a rare Saturday off tomorrow before preparing for a home weekend with Minot next Friday & Saturday.
