Aberdeen Wings News Release
Weekend Recap
This past weekend the Wings stayed hot earning all 6 points possible on the weekend! The Wings started out the 3 game weekend Thursday night in Brookings where the Wings exploded offensively to end up with a 7-2 win over their instate rivals. Justin Parizek started the scoring in the 1st period when he buried a power play goal with the assists going to Peter Krieger and Steven Johnson. Brooking was able to tie things up about 2 minutes later at the 11:59 mark of the period. After that the Wings took control when Erik Baskin and Colton Kramer added goals to send the Wings into the 1st intermission with a 3-1 lead. Assisting on the goals were Jonathan Grebosky, Kyle Haak and Niklas Mayrhauser. Aberdeen added 2 more in the 2nd off the sticks of Tanner Holmquist and Grebosky. Tyler Cisar and Zach Kraft assisted on the Holmquist goal and Mayrhauser and Haak were credited with assists on the Grebosky goal. The Wings would add 2 more insurance goals in the 3rd, first from Baskin with assists going to Grebosky and Jake Horton and finally Tyler Cisar put an exclamation point on the game with a one timer from Holmquist and Johnson. The Blizzard would add on a late goal but the Wings left town with a 7-2 win. In net for the Wings was Zach Nagelvoort who made 31 saves on 33 shots.
Friday night the Wings returned home to face Minot. Once again the Wings were able to get out to a quick start and then ride the defense to the victory 3-1. Jonathan Grebosky got the scoring started for Aberdeen with an unassisted short handed goal midway through the 1st period. Grebosky added an assist 3 minutes later on a perfect feed to Kyle Kruenegel who put it 5 hole on the Minot goaltender Parks. Steven Johnson closed out the Wings Scoring late in the 2nd period with a shot from the point. Assisting on the Johnson goal was Justin Parizek and Peter Krieger. Minot would make things interesting in the 3rd when they got on the board but the Aberdeen defense was to much for the Minotauros earning a 3-1 victory behind goaltending from Chad Catt who made 33 saves on 34 shots.
Saturday the Wings were once again at home in front of a nice crowd of over 1,300 to face Brookings. Aberdeen would once again jump out on top when Jordan Heller scored the first 2 power play goals of the game 10 minutes apart in the 1st period. Assisting on the goals were Steven Johnson, goaltender Zach Nagelvoort, Justin Parizek and Peter Krieger. That would be all the offense needed as the D took over and led the Wings to a 2-1 win. Nagelvoort added to his impressive performance with 35 more saves on 36 shots. Nagelvoort's weekend performance of 68 saves on 70 shots along with his assist earned him NAHL Central Division Star of the Week Honors! Jonathan Grebosky's 2 goals and 3 assists on the weekend earned him Honorable Mention!
