Wings to Honor Retired Superstar Jake Bergey this Saturday Night

April 9, 2009 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Philadelphia Wings News Release

The Philadelphia Wings will honor recently retired star Jake Bergey this Saturday before their 7:30 p.m. game at the Wachovia Center. Bergey, who played all of his 10 seasons in the NLL with the Wings, finished his career with 256 goals and 301 assists. He is second on the Wings all-time in goals, assists, and total points (557). In 2008 Bergey helped lead the team to their first playoff appearance since 2002 and was second on the team in both goals (29) and points (60). He was a member of Philadelphia's last two championships in 1998 and 2001. Bergey was originally drafted by Philadelphia in the fifth round of the 1998 NLL Entry Draft out of Salisbury State.

Bergey was selected by the Boston Blazers in the 2009 expansion draft but did not play a game for the team. The Wings learned that Jake was going to retire and wanted to ensure he left the National Lacrosse League as a member of the Wings. He was re-acquired in a February trade for a conditional draft pick which would be given should Bergey be activated to an NLL roster in the future.

Jake will be honored at the Wings final regular season home game this Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. when they take on the visiting Toronto Rock at the Wachovia Center. Tickets start at just $10! To purchase tickets or receive more information call (215) 389-WING (9464) or visit WingsLAX.com.
